Chu Ming planned to disguise himself as a guard and infiltrate the Chu Estate to investigate.
But there was one problem he had to solve. This guard's task was to follow him. If he simply went back like this, he might arouse suspicion, so he needed a good excuse.
After thinking for a moment, he worked out what to say.
After checking that he hadn't missed anything, Chu Ming used the surroundings to conceal himself and slipped out of the alley.
As soon as he left, he sensed two familiar auras. They belonged to Shao Pengshu and Tan Hong.
"Lord Shao, what do we do now? Three grown men vanished right under our noses. What are we supposed to tell Lord Liu..." Tan Hong's face was taut, his expression grim.
Shao Pengshu looked sullen. He glanced at the inn, then casually turned his head toward the alley where the Chu Family guard had been hiding.
"Hm?! Where's that Chu Family guard?"
"He's gone. Could he have noticed the scholar had disappeared too?"
"Impossible. How could a mere guard be more alert than you and me?"
Were they really that alert?
Tan Hong fell silent.
If they'd thought of disguises from the beginning, how could they have let the man slip away? Now they didn't even know how to explain things to Lord Liu.
"Go keep watch at the inn. I'll look around some more."
Night fell. At the back gate of the Chu Estate.
Two household servants stood guard at the entrance, but Chu Ming, dressed as a guard, simply swaggered inside.
There were only two things he needed to find out at the Chu Estate.
First was the situation with Madam Chu, who had caused his original self's mother's death and was now targeting him.
