Wu Sheng sat beside Wu Jinpeng and cried without stopping, as if he were finally letting out all the tears he had kept bottled up inside for years.
His little hands clutched Wu Jinpeng's clothes, his face full of grievance. He wanted to say something, but whenever he tried, his voice came out choked with tears.
"Did you have a nightmare? It's okay. Dad's here with you." Wu Jinpeng held Wu Sheng and gently patted his back.
The father and son leaned against each other. Chen Ge finally relaxed, rubbed his knees, and slowly headed outside.
As he lifted the curtain, the Black Phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated. Chen Ge took it out, swiped the screen, and opened the latest unread message.
"Two-ninths of the four-star trial mission, the Underworld Fetus, has been completed. The Underworld Fetus can no longer curse you through sound. Lucky Red-Clothed Favored, you're running out of time!"
"Curse through sound? Does that mean it can curse me just by hearing me speak? The Underworld Fetus's ability is terrifying!"
As Chen Ge understood it, curses required a medium. To curse someone, you needed to get their hair, fingernails, or clothes they had worn; at the very least, you needed physical contact. But the Black Phone's message overturned his previous understanding. The Underworld Fetus could apparently curse someone just by hearing their voice.
The Black Phone had revealed this ability, but the Underworld Fetus's powers had to go far beyond that if it could become a God of Calamity. Even with Red-Clothed spirits protecting him, Chen Ge no longer felt safe. "It has too many ways to attack. I could fall victim without even realizing it. No wonder the Black Phone said I'd be doomed once the Underworld Fetus was born."
