Chen Ge had quietly made his way up onto the dam. He slowly approached the mother and her child, then called out when he was five or six meters away.
Even if they did something impulsive from this distance, he would have enough time to save them.
Hearing Chen Ge's voice, the mother glanced back in surprise. She seemed not to have expected anyone to come by so early in the morning.
"Could we talk?" Chen Ge extended a hand toward her. He stopped where he was, keeping a suitable distance so he wouldn't put too much pressure on her.

"I'm so sorry. I'll be more careful from now on." The woman held the boy's hand and stood in front of him, seemingly not wanting Chen Ge to see the child's face.
