Qu Changlin had worked at the Haunted House for three years, and he had never imagined a day like this would come.
That face was only a few centimeters away from his. He could see every detail clearly: the slightly upturned corners of its mouth, the sparse stubble, and the pair of eyes that constantly radiated a chill.
"My boss wants to see you."
The other person's lips moved as if speaking, but Qu Changlin couldn't hear a thing. Maybe the nerves that carried sound had stopped working, or perhaps his brain had completely shut down.
None of that mattered anymore. Qu Changlin hadn't even stopped to wonder why someone was hanging upside down behind him.
His heart didn't return to normal until two seconds later. Blood surged into his brain, and as he slowly regained control of his body, Qu Changlin reacted as any ordinary person would.
"Who's there?!"
His vocal cords trembling, Qu Changlin slammed into the door in front of him. The thin mirror swung open. He tried to run outside, but someone shut the door to the fourth stall.
Trapped in the cramped space, Qu Changlin pressed his back against the stall door and stared into the secret room where he was hiding. The narrow, pitch-black room was empty.
Clutching his chest, Qu Changlin was certain he had just seen someone. They had been hanging upside down behind him, headfirst!
"Where did he go?"
What had just happened had already become a source of trauma for Qu Changlin. If he didn't figure it out, he probably wouldn't dare be alone in a dark, enclosed space for the rest of his life.
The Haunted House's air conditioner was running, and the temperature was low, yet sweat kept beading on Qu Changlin's forehead.
