Background / History

Qirui is the son of the current Kirin Clan patriarch and was regarded as the junior with the best foundation in his generation. Despite having cultivation higher than many peers, he was timid by nature and was frequently bullied without fighting back. 244

He first met Qin Xi while traveling and immediately proposed that they journey together, offering to “hire” Qin Xi as an attendant for 1,000 spirit stones. He was intensely curious about the outside world and persuaded Qin Xi to enter the Phoenix Race competition and its secret realm. 237

While Qirui was away in Phoenix City, the Demon Race massacred the Kirin Clan. Returning too late to save them, he initially suspected Qin Xi upon finding the manor filled with corpses. After learning Qin Xi was the Heavenly Dao Field's Valley Master and recognizing his mistake, Qirui swore to follow him, seek greater strength, and eventually avenge his clan. 244

Qirui later returned to ruined Kirin City with Qin Xi and Yu Xue, where he reunited with Momo, the sole survivor sheltered by the clan elders. A Kirin Clan scale enabled him to speak with his father's divine-soul phantom, who gave him the method to open the clan secret realm and instructed him to find the ancestor Hou. 270 273

Within the secret realm, Qirui declared his intent to avenge the clan and completed Hou's trial with ease, obtaining a Kirin Clan secret technique. He understood that Hou had deliberately gone easy on him and grieved when the ancestor finally passed on. 275 276 280 281

After the conflict with the Masked Man, Qirui left the Heavenly Dao Field with Momo. He believed they could not rely on Qin Xi's protection forever and wanted to gain experience and restore the Kirin Clan. 465

More than a year later, Qirui and Momo returned after their attempt to establish the clan on a spiritually rich island was attacked. Fewer than ten Kirin descendants remained, and Qirui identified the Mediocre Death God near the island, apparently working with black mist. 552 559 560

With support from Di Qun and Ao Xin, Qirui helped arrange the rebuilding and defense of the Kirin Clan's island. By Qin Xi's later visit, he had become more composed, cultivated daily, and had substantially increased his strength. 565 566 733 736

Personality

Qirui is lively, impulsive, and openly curious. When he first enters Phoenix City, he excitedly darts between stalls and sights; he also has a mischievous side, using an invisibility treasure to tease patrolmen. 237 405

The destruction of his clan leaves him deeply grief-stricken and driven by revenge. He repeatedly blames himself for returning too late, mourns the loss of his father and ancestor, and reacts fiercely when the Masked Man or the Mediocre Death God is involved. 244 281 461 562

Although initially timid, he becomes increasingly resolute and responsible. He accepts Qin Xi's guidance, trains to strengthen himself, protects Momo's future, and is willing to sacrifice even the Kirin Clan's island if that would capture the enemies responsible for his people's suffering. 244 288 748

Qirui frequently bickers with Yu Xue, but their arguments conceal mutual concern. Yu Xue is unsettled by his absence during his illness, while Qirui becomes anxious when she disappears. 304 383

Appearance

After more than a year away from the Heavenly Dao Field, Qirui returns in a black robe with a more imposing and valiant bearing, described as resembling a great general. 553
