Background / History
The earlier Alliance was strained by Lordaeron's costly Orc internment camps. Gilneas withdrew entirely, while the Quel'dorei also left after the external threat receded; Lordaeron was left reliant on Stormwind, Kul Tiras, and Stromgarde. At the same time, the Order of the Silver Hand fractured between Taelan Fordring's reform-minded supporters, conservative veterans, and royalists loyal to King Terenas. 101
After the fall of Lordaeron, Taelan led surviving Lordaeron forces and High Elves across the sea to establish a foothold in the Barrens. There, the coalition gained the Tauren, Night Elves, and Pandaren as allies and developed into a new parliamentary state rather than a restoration of the old human-led order. 304
The Alliance declared the Barrens and Mulgore its territory upon landing in Kalimdor. It offered local powers a choice between joining or departing with compensation; Gazlowe and part of Ratchet's Goblin population accepted membership, while the rest left. 154
Cairne Bloodhoof formally announced the Tauren's accession after the Centaur conflict. He defined the organization as an Azeroth-focused alliance built around Lordaeron and governed by a parliamentary system, while allowing Tauren individuals to choose their own future rather than compelling allegiance. 164
Following Ragnarok, the Alliance consolidated into the Alliance of Azeroth. It rejected restorationist nobles, emphasized equality between races, and later accepted additional peoples including the Highmountain Tauren and the Draenei under Prophet Velen. 189 297 301

Military
Azerena Crusade

- Paladin units form a central component of Alliance operations. 279
- Tauren elite guards provide heavily armored shock troops and large-scale battlefield control through Totem Pillars and War Stomp. 189 254
- The Farstriders serve as the Alliance's primary scouts under Sylvanas Windrunner and Hass Stonebrew. 147
- The Alliance relies on mixed formations of Paladins, Rangers, Druids, Shamans, mages, engineers, and conventional forces. 169 304
Mage Forces
The Alliance maintains a powerful mage corps led by Kael'thas during major campaigns. 235
- Jaina's Azerite research enabled Azerite Recall, a precise teleportation method based on crystal spiritual aura and magical formations. 303
- Naxxramas was transformed into New Dalaran, an airborne Alliance fortress known as the “Skybreaker.” 246
- High Elf magic, Goblin and Gnome engineering, Dwarven forging, and Night Elf Druidic methods are combined in Alliance civilian and military technology. 269
Doctrine
The Alliance favors preemptive campaigns against threats rather than waiting for enemies to attack its territory. 256
- It standardized uniforms, banners, and equipment around practical magical circuits instead of decorative racial styles. 273
- Its military strength is built on coordination between races and specialized troop types rather than a single racial doctrine. 189 269
External Relations
- Horde — The Alliance temporarily cooperated with the Horde against the Burning Legion on Draenor, but continued to regard Orc settlement in Azeroth as unacceptable because of the Orcs' invasion and war crimes. 287 289 285
- Dragonflights — Taelan's rescue of Alexstrasza brought Dragon allies, while later campaigns were supported by Blue and Green Dragons. 304 324
- Night Elves — Initial cooperation against the Burning Legion developed into formal accession talks after Ragnarok. 173 189
- Draenei — Velen's people joined after the Draenor campaign, gaining a stable homeland while strengthening the Alliance against continuing threats. 297
