Background / History

Kushina transfers to Konoha and enters Nagi and Minato’s Academy class. Nervous over her introduction and singled out for her bright red hair, she responds to her classmates’ mockery by loudly declaring that she will become the first female Hokage. Nagi and Minato support her ambition, silencing the class, but bullying continues afterward under the nickname “Tomato.” 6

After Nagi disrupts another round of harassment, Kushina thanks him and resolves to fight back herself rather than remain an easy target. Her repeated victories over classmates soon earn her the nickname “Blood Red Pepper.” 7 11 19

Kushina takes Nagi to Tsunade for medical help when his unexplained sleep episodes worsen. She calls Tsunade her sister and places great faith in her medical skill, while Tsunade treats her as a younger sister. Through Nagi, Kushina also becomes more conscious of her own training and agrees to work harder. 8 10 11 17

An older genin later intervenes in a conflict involving his younger brother and ambushes Kushina.
