Ch. 41Fear in Obito's Heart
Plot points and events
- From a tree outside Konoha, Obito and Black Zetsu inspect the enormous gorge Uchiha Genya’s Susanoo slash carved through the forest, noting that it also split the Nine-Tails and left lightning lingering in the wound.
- Obito is deeply unsettled by Genya’s power, especially his ability to tear space and the possibility that his Susanoo weapon could hit Obito even while he is intangible. He and Black Zetsu speculate that using such power will exhaust Genya’s Mangekyō and eventually blind him.
- Obito decides to leave the Nine-Tails in Konoha for now, then kill Genya and eliminate the Uchiha clan once Genya’s eyes fail. Black Zetsu privately approves, having subtly steered Obito toward this outcome.
- At the disaster site, Hiruzen sees the gorge up close and realizes how dangerous it would be to make an enemy of the Uchiha. Anbu and the Security Division are managing relief efforts after the Nine-Tails has been subdued.
- Hiruzen asks Xuanye to let the village take custody of Minato’s newborn child, whom he believes now contains the Nine-Tails. Xuanye refuses, saying Minato entrusted the child to him. When Hiruzen insists the Jinchūriki must remain under village control, Xuanye firmly declares he is not asking permission.
Character developments and interactions
- Obito masks his fear with confidence, claiming Genya will go blind, but privately recognizes him as a serious threat and wants the Uchiha dealt with.
- Black Zetsu mocks Obito’s insistence on being called “Madara” while manipulating him toward the destruction of the Uchiha.
- Hiruzen becomes more cautious toward the Uchiha after witnessing Genya’s power, yet still prioritizes the village’s control of the Nine-Tails.
- Xuanye insists on being addressed by his official rank and refuses to surrender Minato’s child, showing both his principles and his willingness to confront Hiruzen.
Significant themes
