Zhou Zilong opened his eyes. An unfamiliar scene met his gaze. He rubbed his temples, trying hard to recall what had happened. He remembered being surrounded and attacked by a group of people, and then... then he had died. But why was he now standing on this wide road?
"Huh? Where am I? Wasn't I beaten to death by a bunch of people?" Zhou Zilong muttered in confusion.
He did his best to calm down and think back to what he had been doing before the incident.
At the time, he had been a freshman in college, and he'd gotten into trouble after stepping in to help someone.
In the end, he hadn't escaped his pursuers. He'd died in the street. But now, he had somehow come back to life and landed in a completely unfamiliar world.
Had I really traveled to another world? A rush of excitement and curiosity surged through Zhou Zilong. He decided to first figure out where he was.
He continued along the sidewalk beside the road, thinking about what to do next. About an hour later, he entered a bustling metropolis unlike any city he remembered. Its towering buildings, busy streets, and all kinds of strange creatures filled him with wonder and excitement.
Just as he was about to ask a passerby what was going on, a man with a wolf's head and a human body suddenly came into view. His outfit looked so much like a werewolf character from an anime that Zhou Zilong mistook him for someone in a cosplay event. But when the man spoke, Zhou Zilong, who hadn't been paying attention, went "thunk" and walked straight into a utility pole.
"You all right, kid?" the wolf-headed man asked with concern.
Zhou Zilong rubbed his head where it had hit the pole and replied, "I'm fine, sir. But your cosplay is so realistic—even your fur looks real."
The wolf-headed man paused, then laughed as he explained, "Cosplay? Sorry, kid, but I'm a werewolf."
Zhou Zilong was stunned. He realized he really had arrived in another world and hurried to ask the werewolf about it.
After talking with the werewolf, Zhou Zilong learned that he had actually traveled to the Dragon Ball World, a place filled with wonder and adventure.
But the people in this world were simply too powerful. They could casually punch through a planet or something, which worried him.
Without Saiyan blood, an exceptionally powerful bloodline, or an extraordinary talent, surviving in this world wouldn't be easy. He began wondering how he could grow stronger and better face the challenges ahead.
"Other people who travel to another world at least get some kind of cheat system. I've got nothing—just a little experience with martial arts. That might get me by in a world where nobody's that strong, but in a ridiculously powerful world like Dragon Ball, I'd probably only be able to beat Mr. Satan." After leaving the werewolf, Zhou Zilong shook his head helplessly.
"I wonder what point in the timeline this is. If it's still pretty early, maybe I'll have a chance to get stronger. Maybe I'll run into one of Dragon Ball's main characters or side characters, activate some kind of system, and start my own overpowered life." Zhou Zilong muttered to himself again.
As he wondered how he would survive in this world, he noticed an elite school.
The school had a distinctive, high-tech architectural style that sharply contrasted with the buildings around it.
As Zhou Zilong stared at the school, he heard several hooded men whispering to one another.
They were looking toward one part of the school, greed written across their faces.
"That girl's probably the heiress of Capsule Corporation. School's almost out. Once it is, we'll kidnap her and demand tens of billions in ransom from Dr. Brief," one of the kidnappers whispered.
Zhou Zilong's heart skipped a beat. Capsule Corporation? Bulma? He immediately thought of Dragon Ball, the classic anime he'd watched as a child. And judging by the kidnappers' conversation, he was probably here before the events of the first series began.
At the thought, Zhou Zilong grew excited. If that was true, he had a chance to change his fate. He had to find Bulma, stop the kidnappers, and figure out where he belonged in this world.
Zhou Zilong hid nearby and quietly watched the kidnappers. They seemed highly professional, clearly having planned this carefully. He didn't dare act recklessly and could only wait for an opportunity.
At last, the dismissal bell rang, and the school gates slowly opened. Students streamed out, and Zhou Zilong spotted the girl the kidnappers had been watching—Bulma.
She was wearing a school uniform, her hair tied in a ponytail and her blue eyes shining with intelligence. She looked only eleven or twelve, but otherwise she was exactly like her anime counterpart.
So I really did travel to the Dragon Ball world before the story began. Zhou Zilong felt relieved. He knew this was the perfect moment to act.
He quietly followed Bulma, keeping a close eye on the kidnappers. Sure enough, as soon as they saw Bulma come out, they headed straight for her.
