Having lost its flame core, the aura of the Madness Flame suddenly plummeted. Its entire form dimmed considerably, instantly becoming listless. A face could faintly be seen emerging on its surface, letting out a pained wail.
She stared fixedly at Gray, the venomous hatred in her gaze enough to send chills down one's spine.
The Madfire Sun contracted, its color growing increasingly dark until it finally took on a form resembling a black hole.
Suddenly, a bright streak of fire shot out from it, piercing through space. By the time it appeared again, it was already right beside Gray.
This was the Madness Flame's final counterattack. She had gathered all her power, attempting to perish together with Gray, who had defeated her.
Kischurche's expression changed drastically. Without the slightest regard for the nearly exhausted magical energy within him, he instantly cast a multitude of defensive magecraft spells upon Gray. Layer upon layer of barriers rose from the ground, shielding Gray behind them.
With such defensive strength, even a human standing at the center of an explosion caused by a forbidden weapon would remain safe.
Yet those defenses did not impede that streak of fire in the slightest. They had no effect whatsoever, unable to delay it even for a moment.
Gray, having just unleashed her Noble Phantasm, had also had a great deal of magical energy drained from her body. Still somewhat depleted and exhausted, by the time she reacted, the bright streak of fire had already reached her back, piercing through layers of barriers and defensive formulas.
