Mu Ci looked at Du Lan and smiled without answering. He gave Du Lan's shoulder a meaningful pat, then turned and returned to his seat behind the consultation desk.
How could it be that miraculous? I merely added Abundance Power to some of the medicinal ingredients, greatly enhancing their effects. To achieve that result with an ordinary prescription, he would need at least two more doses.
When the old man led his now-conscious child outside, the people waiting at the entrance immediately began discussing it among themselves.
Many who had originally been skeptical now began to waver.
The belief that Spirit Masters stood above all else had long been deeply ingrained in people's hearts and could not be dispelled overnight.
Still, those people were relatively well-off commoners. The impoverished outsiders from beyond the city, like the old man from before, had already begun lining up at the entrance.
They could not afford to hire Spirit Masters. Other than enduring their illnesses on their own, this clinic was their only option.
Time passed bit by bit, and evening soon arrived.
Although many people were still waiting outside, Mu Ci had Du Lan inform them to return the next day.
Mu Ci's gains that day were considerable. Aside from the case data unique to Douluo Continent, which made writing his Medical Canon much easier—
there was also the improvement in his Path Power. If there had been a status panel, then his day of treating patients and dispensing medicine would have raised it by nearly 0.5%.
Though it was not as much as the increase from completely curing a patient, it was still quite good. It also let him realize that improving on the Path did not necessarily require using his power. As long as he practiced the Path's ideals, he would receive corresponding feedback.
Mu Ci thought again of the relationship between Pathstriders and Aeons. A Pathstrider's new understanding of a Path could broaden an Aeon's scope.
Then, if I spread medical texts and pharmacopeias throughout this world, allowing more people to take up the profession of healer, would those unparalleled geniuses broaden my Path?
Mu Ci did not believe that Douluo Continent only had geniuses among Spirit Masters. Most geniuses in other trades who lacked the talent to become Spirit Masters had merely been buried by the hardships of life.
What they lacked was simply a new path.
That evening, after teaching Du Lan and the others literacy and basic medical knowledge, Mu Ci prepared to return home to cultivate.
Before leaving, Mu Ci asked Du Lan a question. "Du Lan, what is your Martial Soul?"
At those words, a trace of loneliness appeared on Du Lan's honest face. He replied, "Clinic Master, everyone in our village has dog-type Martial Souls. For hundreds of years, not a single person has possessed Soul Power or become a Spirit Master."
Then he asked somewhat doubtfully, "Clinic Master, why do you ask?"
"Oh, nothing. Just asking."
With that, Mu Ci returned home, lost in thought.
A year later, Mu Ci sat in the resting area, watching Du Lan and the other three treat the few scattered patients.
Over this period, the four of them had learned quickly. With theory combined with practical experience, they were already capable of treating minor injuries and common illnesses.
What remained was deeper study of theory and the accumulation of experience.
Before long, the last few patients took their medicine and left.
After tidying up, Du Lan and the other three came to stand before Mu Ci.
Mu Ci took a sip of tea. "Have you decided who will stay behind to run the clinic?"
Du Lan stepped forward and said, "We have decided. Second Brother will stay and help you run the clinic. The other three of us want to go out and spread your medical texts and pharmacopeias, so that your knowledge can spread across Douluo Continent."
"Though we have only learned the basics this past year, with the medical books you gave us, there should be no problem."
Mu Ci nodded. "Godwood City's situation has stabilized. Before long, I will also head to other cities to rid them of disease."
"I have watched everything you have done this past year, and I am fairly reassured about you."
"Before you leave, I will give each of you a gift. Use it after you return."
"However, I must remind you that once you use this item, you may have to conceal your names and identities for more than a decade. You will no longer be able to travel under your current identities."
"If you choose not to use it, then everything will remain as it is."
Mu Ci added one final sentence.
"Except for Second Brother. But even after he uses it, do not publicize it. Do not tell anyone other than those present."
"If anything happens, you may seek help from Spirit Hall or the Mu Family."
With that, Mu Ci took four strange-looking syringes from his storage Soul Tool and handed them to the four of them.
"That is all. I will be leaving first."
Mu Ci walked outside without looking back.
Godwood City's environment could no longer allow his Path Power to advance any further. He could only head to other cities.
Watching Mu Ci's departing figure, Du Lan and the other three bent at the waist and said in unison, "Goodbye, teacher."
The clinic dormitory.
Modu was only a teenage boy, and he immediately said excitedly to his fellow disciples:
"I wonder what gift teacher gave us. I'll try mine first."
He took out the gift Mu Ci had given him. It was a strange-looking syringe, but none of them were unfamiliar with such things.
Over the past year, aside from medicinal herbs and patients, what they had encountered most were these odd medical instruments invented by Mu Ci.
With that, Modu was about to press the syringe against his arm.
But a thick arm stopped him. Du Lan said, "I'm the eldest brother. I should set the example first."
He took out his own syringe and pressed it against his arm.
He felt a cold needle pierce into his muscle, followed by a sharp sting.
Taking a deep breath, Du Lan directly injected the fluid into his body.
"Phew!"
Seeing that Du Lan had finished injecting it, the other three immediately crowded around him, asking questions all at once.
"Big Brother, how do you feel?"
Du Lan smiled and interrupted them. "How could it happen that quickly? It has only just... Ah!"
Before he could finish, Du Lan's face twisted in agony. He screamed as his entire body curled up on the ground and began convulsing.
His jet-black short hair began to turn yellow. The veins in his muscles bulged, and his mouth started jutting forward, revealing short canine teeth.
"What is happening?" The five of them looked at one another, wanting to help Du Lan up first.
Yet none of them found the changes before them strange, because they could all do the same.
Martial Soul Possession. For generations, their village had awakened a Beast Martial Soul called the Earth-Yellow Dog, but no one had ever developed Soul Power.
The elders of their village had once asked a Spirit Hall deacon who had come to conduct Martial Soul Awakening, hoping to learn the reason.
The deacon had replied, "The Earth-Yellow Dog is an inferior soul beast descended from the low-level Earth Wolf. Its bloodline rank is extremely low, and it may not even reach the level of a ten-year soul beast in its entire life.
"As a Martial Soul, it is barely any stronger than Blue Silver Grass."
Just as the five of them were about to help Du Lan onto the bed—
another mutation occurred.
Free-form Incarnation and Soul Bones
Du Lan's degree of beastification during Martial Soul Possession had originally been extremely low, which also represented the low rank of his Martial Soul bloodline.
But now, his entire body underwent drastic changes.
His muscles began to swell, his limbs stretched out, and his entire body grew two sizes larger.
His earth-yellow hair turned snow-white and began spreading across his entire body. The exposed skin seemed to be covered in a layer of frost and snow.
His originally short canine muzzle widened and lengthened. His fangs grew sharp, their roots as thick as iron nails. Claws more than an inch long emerged from the tips of his hands, gleaming coldly like sharp daggers.
"Awooo!"
A low wolf howl emerged from the depths of Du Lan's throat.
A moment later, Du Lan stopped convulsing and rose to his feet. With his eyes closed, he savored the immense strength flooding through every part of his body.
"B-Big Brother, how do you feel?" Modu asked nervously, unable to hide his excitement.
Du Lan opened his eyes, glanced at the three of them, then looked down at his own hands. He said excitedly, "I have never felt this good before. And I can feel Soul Power."
"I can become a Spirit Master!"
Hearing that, the other three were all thrilled. They could not wait to inject their own doses into their bodies.
The same scene played out again. Before long, three werewolves over two meters tall appeared in the room.
"Haha, Big Brother, we have Soul Power too! Our village's wish of hundreds of years has finally come true."
The group looked at themselves in their Martial Soul Possession forms. They laughed, then began to cry.
Du Lan looked at his fellow villagers and said in a low voice, "Now I finally understand why teacher told us not to use our original identities after we leave."
"This is simply too shocking."
The three werewolves nodded in agreement.
At that moment, Du Lan walked into the courtyard and knelt in the direction of Mu Mansion. He lowered his wolfish head and placed one hand over his chest.
"Abundance above, we shall keep this secret and serve you for eternity!"
"Abundance above!"
Free-form Incarnation.
In the game, it was a biological modification technology unique to the Xianzhou Alliance, intended to make adjustments at the genetic level.
It allowed Xianzhou Natives to alter their physical forms and acquire biological traits from other species, enabling them to adapt to the complex and ever-changing environments of the universe.
After the Apothecary's Blessing granted the Ambrosial Arbor, the Xianzhou developed this technology through research into the Aeon's divine power.
Most other Abundance People possessed similar abilities as well, capable of plundering the blessings of other Abundance People to strengthen themselves.
This was what Mu Ci had given Du Lan and the others.
Though he had bestowed such things upon them, Mu Ci was not actually worried about their secret leaking. Being insignificant meant having little influence anywhere; it was not as though people would believe whatever one said.
Moreover, Mu Ci had two Titled Douluo and Spirit Hall behind him. He had nothing to fear. At this point in time, the entire continent combined was no match for Spirit Hall.
