Zamasu suddenly realized the truth, and heaved a slight sigh of relief.
So, the Supreme Kai was looking to select a new Supreme Kai.
That gave me quite a scare.
I actually thought you were testing me.
"How about it? Are you interested?" Gowasu asked with a smile.
"I will certainly become an outstanding Supreme Kai!" Zamasu replied immediately.
"Very good. Then, starting today, you shall follow me for training; I need to examine you further," Gowasu smiled. "To become a Supreme Kai, one must not only possess powerful combat abilities but also undergo tempering of the heart. It is a rather long process. If all goes well, in about 40 years or so, you will be able to take my place."
"Yes, Supreme Kai." Zamasu felt a surge of excitement.
Forty years was, in truth, quite brief for a god.
"Zamasu, show me your combat abilities first," Gowasu proposed.
"But... who shall I fight?" Zamasu looked around, only to find that there was no one else present besides the Supreme Kai.
"Snap!"
Gowasu lifted his hand slightly, and a black, square block appeared above his palm.
"Next, I will continuously throw this Thunderbolt Steel at you. While you dodge, it would be best if you also launch attacks to show me your true strength," Gowasu said. "You should know of this Thunderbolt Steel; it is the hardest metal in our universe, or perhaps even the entire multiverse. Be careful, and try not to get hurt."
"Yes." Zamasu immediately prepared for battle at a distance.
"Whoosh!"
Gowasu gave a light wave of his hand, and the Thunderbolt Steel whistled toward Zamasu's position.
"Snap!"
A pink flame of light flickered in Zamasu's hand.
This was Zamasu's Blade.
"Screech!"
Watching the incoming Thunderbolt Steel, Zamasu swung his Blade and slashed right through it.
The Thunderbolt Steel was split in two by Zamasu's strike instantly.
"Not bad, again!" Gowasu nodded in satisfaction, waved his hand once more, and another piece of Thunderbolt Steel flew out at high speed.
This time, the Thunderbolt Steel flew even faster.
However, Zamasu still dodged the assault with ease and countered with a horizontal slash of his Blade.
"Crack!"
The Thunderbolt Steel was once again cleaved in two by Zamasu.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
Gowasu continued to manifest Thunderbolt Steel from his hand.
Zamasu handled them with ease.
High above in the sky.
Kusu and Rumsshi, who had just arrived, happened to witness this scene of Zamasu confronting the Thunderbolt Steel.
"Who is this kid? His strength looks pretty good," Rumsshi's eyes lit up.
"He is the North Kai, Zamasu," Kusu said.
"A North Kai... can he run for God of Destruction?" Rumsshi muttered, lost in thought.
"That is no problem. There is no rule stating that one cannot select a new God of Destruction from among the Kais," Kusu replied.
"Let's watch a bit more," Rumsshi said.
The two hovered high in the sky, silently watching Zamasu slash through the Thunderbolt Steel.
About another minute passed.
Rumsshi suddenly aimed his large hand toward Zamasu below.
"Snap!"
A piece of Thunderbolt Steel suddenly materialized in Rumsshi's hand as well.
The previous Thunderbolt Steel had a side length of about two meters.
But this piece of Thunderbolt Steel had surged to six meters in length, appearing like a massive black mountain as it descended from the sky, pressing down toward Zamasu below.
Zamasu: "..."
What is that?
Why did it suddenly get so big?
Gowasu, you bastard, you have no sense of sportsmanship.
At this moment, it was already too late for Zamasu to dodge.
"Hehehe!"
Zamasu swung his hand blade, hacking toward the Thunderbolt Steel that Rumsshi had shifted over.
However, the density of the Thunderbolt Steel seemed even greater than before.
Zamasu slashed his hand blade several times, but the Thunderbolt Steel didn't react in the slightest.
"Thud!"
The Thunderbolt Steel fell from the air, slamming directly onto Zamasu.
"Bang!"
Zamasu was pinned beneath the Thunderbolt Steel, with only one hand left sticking out, trembling incessantly.
Gowasu: "..."
Gowasu had no idea what was happening.
Gowasu looked up at the sky and quickly spotted Kusu and Rumsshi appearing above.
"Ah... it is Lady Kusu and Lord Rumsshi," Gowasu greeted hurriedly.
"Plop!"
Kusu and Rumsshi descended from the sky, landing opposite Gowasu.
"Greetings, Lord Gowasu," Kusu greeted with a smile.
"You are too kind, Lady Kusu; just calling me Gowasu is fine," Gowasu laughed.
Rumsshi did not speak.
"I wonder what business brings Lady Kusu and Lord Rumsshi to see me?" Gowasu asked respectfully.
"This fellow is named Zamasu, right?" Rumsshi pointed at Zamasu, who was pinned under the Thunderbolt Steel.
"Yes, he is a North Kai. I intend for him to succeed my position as Supreme Kai... You see, I am getting on in years, and I feel it is time to retire; it is time to cultivate a successor," Gowasu nodded and introduced him.
"I am taking him away to compete for the position of God of Destruction of the New Universe. You don't object, do you?" Rumsshi stated his purpose directly.
"God of Destruction of the New Universe?" Gowasu was slightly stunned. "I had heard rumors that a new universe had been born... I didn't expect it to be true... It's just... if Lord Rumsshi wishes to select a God of Destruction... is it appropriate to choose from the Kais?"
"There is no rule stating that one cannot select a God of Destruction from the Kais," Rumsshi replied. "I am not here to consult with you; I am here to inform you."
Gowasu wiped away sweat.
How truly unfortunate.
After finally selecting a Kai who was decent in every respect to succeed my Supreme Kai position.
And yet, Lord Rumsshi wants to train him to be a God of Destruction.
Gowasu didn't know what to say.
However, Gowasu was a man of a gentle disposition.
He did not oppose the decision Rumsshi had made.
"Good, then it is happily decided," Rumsshi said, swaying his elephant trunk with satisfaction.
"Snap!"
Rumsshi waved his hand through the air toward the massive piece of Thunderbolt Steel.
"Whoosh!"
The Thunderbolt Steel vanished in an instant.
Zamasu stood up from the ground, grimacing in pain.
"Zamasu, come here for a moment," Gowasu said to Zamasu.
Zamasu stepped forward, looking at Kusu and Rumsshi with some curiosity.
"Haha... Supreme Kai, that last piece of Thunderbolt Steel was truly massive... I wasn't careful enough and got pinned underneath," Zamasu said with a laugh.
Gowasu really wanted to tell Zamasu that he wasn't the one who had conjured that Thunderbolt Steel.
But Gowasu felt there was no need to mention such things.
After Zamasu finished speaking, he noticed the two strangers present at the scene.
"These two are..." Zamasu did not recognize them.
