Background / History

Itachi initially stands between the Uchiha Clan and Konoha. Pressured by Fugaku to support a clan revolution through the Sharingan's ability to control tailed beasts, he instead reports the planned rebellion to Konoha's leadership and is recruited by Danzō to suppress it from within. 1

During the night intended for the clan's annihilation, Itachi approaches the compound prepared to act for Konoha and Sasuke's safety, despite his lingering attachment to the clan and to Izumi. Fugaku intercepts him, defeats him, and leaves him unconscious rather than allowing the massacre to proceed. 6 7

After Fugaku resolves the crisis, Itachi resigns from the Anbu at his father's order. The resignation relieves him of the choices imposed by his former position, and he decides to live for Sasuke. 12 16

Personality

Itachi is dutiful to an extreme. He accepts Fugaku's harsh training schedule, training-supervision assignment, and political schemes despite privately resenting or questioning them. His instinct is to shoulder responsibility rather than refuse an order. 25 26 83

His loyalties remain complicated. He once prioritizes village peace and Sasuke over the clan, later struggles with Fugaku's demand that he think from the Uchiha perspective, and gradually assumes genuine clan responsibility while Fugaku is injured. 6 81 156

As an instructor and combatant, he can be severe and pragmatic. He uses Tsukuyomi to force disobedient trainees to confront their limits, yet respects Akame after the latter endures the illusion for three days and three nights. 26 27
