Background / History

Shuoyue was one of the last surviving Uchiha. While fleeing pursuers with his younger brother, he fought to survive despite being badly outnumbered. Uchiha Obito later rescued the brothers from mercenaries in the mountains and became Shuoyue’s teacher, sheltering and training them while stressing that protecting their bond mattered more than pursuing strength alone 2 4.

After Obito’s identity was exposed, Shuoyue eventually entered Konoha under the Hatake name as Kakashi Sakuya. He and his younger brother were presented as nephews of the Sixth Hokage, Hatake Kakashi, while concealing their Uchiha heritage and Sharingan 6 10.

During his academy years, Shuoyue’s hostility toward others softened through the persistence of Himawari Uzumaki and the companionship of Nadeshiko Haku. He became a chunin alongside Haku and Lian, but his exposure as an Uchiha during the Chunin Exams drew Naruto’s warning; Shuoyue answered by swearing to personally eliminate Root 8 9 21.

Five years later, he learned that Konoha’s senior leadership had tacitly accepted the Uchiha massacre. The revelation awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan and drove him to destroy a Root stronghold. He left Haku behind, abandoned Konoha, and declared himself a missing-nin 24 25.

Personality

Shuoyue is intensely protective of the people he considers his own. As a child, he reacted to insults against his brother with extreme violence and repeatedly placed himself between danger and weaker classmates, especially Himawari 6 10. His battle decisions are typically immediate and clinical: identify threats, protect allies, and exploit the smallest opening.

He initially keeps others at a distance, treating trust as a vulnerability. Himawari’s kindness and Kakashi’s advice gradually draw him into friendship, while Haku earns his respect through strength and their repeated sparring 8 9 12. Even after becoming a rogue shinobi, he continues to rescue children from illegal facilities and gives them positions and belonging within the Ten Branches 32.

The truth of the Uchiha massacre turns his protectiveness into obsessive vengeance.
