Background / History

Tang San becomes Yu Xiaogang's disciple after Yu identifies his Twin Martial Souls. He trusts that someone able to recognize both martial souls immediately must be qualified to guide him, and accepts Yu's promise to train him into the continent's foremost genius 4.

At Notting Academy, he fiercely defends Yu Xiaogang when other students insult him. He later builds a reputation among the work-study students by standing up for them; opponents are wary of his poisonous Blue Silver Grass 5 10.

Yu directs Tang San toward a poison-based development path for Blue Silver Grass while reserving the Clear Sky Hammer as a complementary martial soul. Tang San embraces this plan, even after initially being unsettled by Yu's Luo Sanpao soul skill 6.

After his third Soul Ring damages his meridians, Tang San becomes increasingly reliant on Yu Xiaogang's treatment plans, medicinal resources, and hidden-weapon materials. He later studies at Morning Water Academy while continuing to prepare for the Soul Master Tournament 95 117 118.

Personality

Tang San is deeply loyal to Yu Xiaogang, repeatedly placing faith in his teacher's theories even when circumstances cause him doubt. He is obedient and respectful in Yu's presence, follows half a step behind him, and turns to him in fear when his body begins failing 4 54 56.

He is determined, competitive, and highly sensitive to humiliation. Although he promises not to challenge Xia Yan, he privately resolves to cultivate harder, forge hidden weapons, and eventually defeat him. Public mockery after his arena victories leaves him angry and gloomy 10 35.

Tang San can also disregard others' boundaries. When introducing Yu Xiaogang to his Shrek classmates, he begins revealing their ages, levels, martial souls, and soul skills without permission 56.

His ambition intensifies after learning of the Clear Sky Hammer. He seeks to prove himself at the Soul Master Tournament, clear Yu Xiaogang's name, and demonstrate that he is not limited by Blue Silver Grass, even when this goal puts him at odds with Tang Hao 140 149 150.

Tang San remains devoted to Yu Xiaogang despite the danger surrounding them. After Tang Hao attempts to take him away, Tang San refuses to leave without both Xiao Wu and Yu Xiaogang, and later insists on remaining to vindicate his teacher 150 154 155.

While at Morning Water Academy, he trains the Purple Demon Eye, gathers rare toxic materials for new hidden weapons, and remains determined to prove Yu Xiaogang's theories at the Soul Master Tournament 95 117 135 136.

Rank Forty and Clear Sky Hammer Revelation

At age fifteen, Tang San reaches level 40 but remains without a fourth Soul Ring after the intended Blue Silver Grass source becomes unavailable. Yu Xiaogang then reveals the identity of Tang San's hammer martial soul as the Clear Sky Hammer, fueling Tang San's ambition to abandon Blue Silver Grass as his main future path 140 141 142.

Conflict with Tang Hao and Soul Master Tournament

Tang Hao returns and attempts to take Tang San away because Spirit Hall may have discovered them. Tang San refuses to abandon Xiao Wu, Yu Xiaogang, and the tournament, sustaining a severe neck injury during the confrontation. After recovering, he chooses to remain and competes in the Soul Master Tournament, using poisonous Blue Silver Grass and hidden weapons to prove himself and defend Yu Xiaogang's reputation 149 150 154 155.

Shrek easily defeats Exotic Beast Academy, with Tang San's mutated vines spreading over hundreds of meters. A later tournament humiliation becomes a severe emotional burden: an illusion exposes claims about Tang San, his father, and his Tang Sect techniques to the crowd. Tang San subsequently fights Yu Tianheng in Spirit Plaza over accusations of cheating and hidden-weapon use; Flender stops them before either can kill the other 156 158 160 163 167.

Spirit City and Fourth Soul Ring

When Tang Hao attacks Spirit City, Tang San cannot withstand the residual force of his father's power and is injured. Tang Hao carries him away while escaping Spirit Hall's pursuit 171.

In the Star Dou Great Forest, father and son find a roughly 2,800–3,000-year-old Blue Silver Grass soul beast. Tang San kills it with his Clear Sky Hammer and absorbs its ring, hoping to repair his damaged martial soul and meridians. Instead, he gains only greater toughness for Blue Silver Grass.
