Ji Haodian trusted Su Xin deeply. That trust had begun when Su Xin won him the Human Emperor Sword in the Kunlun Secret Realm.
Although Great Zhou had now been founded and its foundations were secure, and although powerhouses like Tie Ao of the Six Fan Sect and Lin Zongyue of the military were still in their prime, that didn't mean Great Zhou had no need for a rising generation. Su Xin was the rising star Ji Haodian intended to cultivate heavily.
But cultivation was one thing; Ji Haodian would never allow Su Xin to act recklessly.
On the surface, Su Xin's plan seemed sound. But what if the Esoteric Sect lost?
Ji Haodian asked outright, "What will you do if the Esoteric Sect loses? All your schemes will come to nothing, and the Shaolin Temple will have gained an advantage for free."
Looking at Ji Haodian, Su Xin sneered inwardly.
The Human Emperor was, in truth, a very selfish man. One only had to look at how he treated his sons to see that.
He would rather choose an obedient son than a capable one, simply because he was still sitting on the throne.
Whether the Western Border Esoteric Sect won or lost actually made little difference to him. But under the terms of the wager, the Esoteric Sect would have to withdraw from the Central Plains. Then who would help Ji Haodian study the secrets of the White Jade Tablet?
The Esoteric Sect's powerhouses had already proven they could help Ji Haodian uncover the tablet's secrets. So even if they were merely using each other, Ji Haodian was still loath to let them go.
Su Xin smiled.
