At dusk, the setting sun dipped low and the rosy glow slowly dissipated. The sky shifted from warm red to a pale blue, and the wind carried a hint of chill. As the last of the daylight was gently gathered up by the encroaching night, the two finally stepped out of the Star Dou Great Forest.
After bidding farewell to Zhang Lexuan, he strolled leisurely onto the country road leading toward the Heaven Dou Empire. Watching the youth's receding back, Zhang Lexuan's expression was complex. Even though this fellow hadn't spent much time with her, he had left an indelible mark on her heart. She couldn't quite put her finger on the reason, but the feeling wasn't bad at all.
Has she left yet? She wouldn't still be standing there watching, would she? Maybe... I should look back?
As he walked further away, Su Qing's mind began to race. If Zhang Lexuan were still standing there watching, he couldn't just run straight back into the forest. Otherwise, he would surely be dragged back and interrogated, or at the very least, he'd end up with a bump on the back of his head.
I'd better use my spiritual power to check. If I turn around and she's still there, and she insists on escorting me back thinking I'm afraid to return alone, that would be a disaster.
With that thought, he probed behind him with his spiritual power once more. Confirming that Zhang Lexuan had indeed left, he let out a sigh of relief and took a long stride, sprinting back into the forest.
"Ni, come!"
He hadn't run far before he stopped and shouted. Moments later, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion came bounding over joyfully, grabbed his collar, tossed him onto her back, and raced toward the Land of Great Calamity.
"Ni-zi, you're a big girl now. You need to be steady; you can't be so reckless anymore."
Su Qing looked helpless. The creature's drool was smeared all over his back. She had likely rushed out to find him the moment she could, not even stopping to catch her breath, and was now panting so hard she was drooling.
"Hehe, if I come to find you early, I get to play longer. I can at least figure out that much!"
The Three-Eyed Golden Lion didn't care about such things. Since he was here, she had to make him stay for a few more days. She wouldn't let him run off after only two days like last time. This time, he had to play with her for at least five days—no, seven! It would be best if he stayed here forever so she wouldn't be bored, and she could smell that pleasant scent on him every day.
Hearing this, Su Qing smiled helplessly and stopped lecturing. Instead, he found a comfortable position, resting his head in the soft fur around the Three-Eyed Golden Lion's neck. It had to be said, this furry creature was cute to look at and comfortable to touch—simply perfect.
Seeing her carefree demeanor, Su Qing's heart softened, and the lecture he had planned to give her was completely forgotten.
While watching the stars from the back of the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, Su Qing had nothing to do, so he took out the storage ring Zhang Lexuan had given him to fiddle with. Unexpectedly, this was seen by the Beast of Auspice, who possessed omniscient vision when her third eye was open. Upon seeing the ring, she asked without a second thought:
"Are you going to mate with that human?"
"Pfft—cough, cough."
The sudden question nearly caused Su Qing to be "solo-killed" by his own saliva. Once he finally recovered from the choking fit, he explained, "I'm still young. I won't be mating with anyone. Besides, who on earth taught you such things?"
Unexpectedly, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion was running too fast; she hadn't heard the first part clearly and missed the second part entirely. After pondering the meaning of his words for a moment, she asked again, "Then what kind of soul beast are you going to mate with?"
"You...!"
At these words, Su Qing nearly suffered internal injuries from anger. He swore that he would make the one who corrupted the Three-Eyed Golden Lion pay the price.
"Who exactly taught you this?!"
Seeing Su Qing's anger, and fearing he wouldn't play with her, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion immediately sold out Bear Lord. It turned out that when Bear Lord was using honey to coax a female bear into mating with him, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion had happened to witness it. He had then lectured the Beast of Auspice on the subject, though he only shared his own twisted perspectives.
"A fine Bear Lord indeed. When the time comes, I'll have him sent to the Divine Beast Forest for some 'training'!"
Meanwhile, Bear Lord, who was busy with the propagation of his race in his cave, sneezed for no reason. A bone-chilling cold washed over him, and suspecting he had caught a cold, he hugged the female bear opposite him even tighter...
"Su Qing, why don't you give me a name?"
After being called "Ni-zi" by Su Qing more times than she could count, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion was becoming displeased. Di Tian and the others had names, Su Qing had a name, and even the Lord had a name—but she didn't! It wasn't fair at all!
"Isn't your name Beast of Auspice?"
Su Qing laughed. He knew full well that wasn't her name, but he couldn't resist teasing her.
"Can't you see I'm glaring at you!"
The Three-Eyed Golden Lion tilted her head and tossed him onto the ground, looking down at him with her eyes rolled up.
"Yo! You've gained wisdom."
Seeing the Three-Eyed Golden Lion acting so out of character, Su Qing felt, for once, that she had actually become clever.
"Bastard!"
Although she didn't understand the exact meaning of the word, seeing the blatant mockery in Su Qing's eyes, she knew it certainly wasn't a compliment.
"Alright, alright. I know who you learned that one from—your dear, precious Lord, right?"
Su Qing didn't take these harmless, petulant words to heart. Like Gu Yuena, she suffered from a lack of cultural exposure; even her insults were as light as a feather.
"You, you're infuriating! I'm never playing with you again!"
Seeing that he didn't take her seriously at all, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion was so angry that the fur on her neck stood on end. However, she immediately regretted it; Su Qing was her only playmate, and she had forgotten that in her haste.
"Really?"
The guilt was written all over her face the moment she finished speaking. Seeing this, Su Qing leaned in closer, raised an eyebrow, and asked with a playful, teasing expression.
The little creature was no match for a cunning person like Su Qing. Too frustrated to speak, tears welled up in her eyes. Seeing this, Su Qing stopped teasing her, patted her head, and said softly:
"Don't be angry. How about I give you a super nice name?"
Seeing Su Qing trying to coax her, her anger vanished instantly. However, not wanting to seem too easy to appease, she only gave a soft "hmph," unaware that her rapidly wagging tail had already betrayed her.
Su Qing didn't call her out on it and proceeded to discuss several options with her. After carefully comparing a few names, she decided to take Di Tian's surname, as it sounded more imposing...
"Then let's call you Di Yueyao!"
"Yay! Yay! This name has two 'Kings' in it; it fits my image as the Beast of Auspice perfectly! Su Qing, you're so smart!!!"
Watching Su Qing write "Yueyao" on the ground, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion was ecstatic. She lunged at Su Qing, rubbing against him affectionately.
After being pushed along the ground for two miles, Su Qing looked at the large hole in the back of his clothes, then at the satisfied, tail-wagging Di Yueyao, and felt a deep sense of helplessness...
