But honestly, so many bookmarks and so few subscriptions really hurt. With so few subscriptions, authors lost their motivation. Without motivation, they got lazy about updating and started slacking off.
They might originally have been able to write ten or twenty thousand words a day, but when they saw only one or two hundred subscriptions, why the hell would they keep at it? They'd just write four thousand words to scrape by and collect the attendance bonus.
That was basically how it went.
Then, after muddling along for a while, one day they started taking leave. After taking leave once or twice, they dropped the book.
A lot of authors dealt with it by enabling anti-piracy measures.
I'd enabled anti-piracy measures too, but nominally it was anti-piracy. In reality, it just meant I was too lazy to update today, so I posted yesterday's chapter and updated today's chapter the day after tomorrow.
For some reason, I got tired of writing very easily back then. Forget four thousand words a day—even two thousand felt like it was killing me.
I didn't know why I kept writing books when I didn't even like writing.
But things were different now. I didn't know when it started, but I suddenly found writing books interesting and playing games boring.
I didn't know where this sense of mission came from either.
Maybe I felt that if I never married or had children in this life, I should at least leave something behind in this world.
