Thus, even Dao Patriarchs and Buddha Patriarchs as stunningly gifted as they were ultimately failed, able only to return to the void early.
Among the Daoist and Buddhist lineages, how many wise men had there been? Take Wisdom—those emperors might not necessarily have surpassed such eminent masters.
Yet all those eminent masters had failed.
As for how to establish a Dao Kingdom upon the earth, perhaps over the endless ages, it was not that no Daoist had comprehended this point. It was simply that none had been willing to sacrifice themselves to fulfill their own disciples.
When Daoists took disciples, it was not to continue their inheritance. Rather, when their Dao lineage was passed down in the human world and became known to others, it gained a share of the lineage's fortune, allowing them to travel farther through the void.
Otherwise, given the temperament of most Daoists, they would have preferred to destroy their Daoist texts before ascending, ensuring that after them, there would be no Dao left in the world...
