In the blink of an eye, a month passed.
The moment Uchiha Cheng opened his eyes that day, his heart tightened.
Today was the day his mother received her salary, which meant that man—his father in name only—would certainly come to rob her again.
He needed to prepare in advance this time to protect his mother.
However, unlike a month ago, Uchiha Cheng was no longer the frail child who had just recovered from a serious illness; his ninjutsu gave him the confidence he needed.
He dressed in simple, easy-to-move-in clothes, put on sunglasses, and prepared a long iron rod.
He had specifically purchased this iron rod earlier; at only 1.2 meters long, it was just slightly taller than him, making it perfect for his use.
Although he was not skilled in taijutsu, Uchiha Cheng understood the principle that an extra inch of length meant an extra inch of power. In a fight, a long weapon still held the advantage over a short one.
Moreover, compared to bladed weapons, a blunt staff caused less damage and was less likely to result in a fatal accident. After all, he only wanted to protect his mother, teach that man a lesson, and drive him away; he did not want to kill anyone.
In the evening, his mother returned from work with a grave expression.
The mother and son ate dinner in silence; the air in the room seemed to have solidified, the heavy atmosphere making it hard to breathe.
Hearing footsteps outside the door, Mika told Uchiha Cheng to return to his room, then opened the door herself.
The man walked in. Compared to last time, his clothes were much cleaner, looking as if they were brand new, and his hair was neatly groomed.
Uchiha Kenji glanced at Mika, revealing a mocking smile, and said, "You cheap woman, you finally learned to open the door for your husband this time?"
He lacked the desperate impatience for money he had shown last time, and his behavior carried a sense of playful malice.
He sat down on a chair with a swagger and snorted coldly, "I'll beat you if you don't behave, you stinking woman!"
He then patted his clothes and arrogantly clamored, "See this? I've turned my luck around this time and made more money than I could ever spend. I sleep in nightclubs every day now, playing with women. I place huge bets, and I can earn your monthly salary in just a few minutes."
"I have plenty of money now."
Mika ignored him and said calmly, "Let's talk."
"What, want to beg for mercy? Want to ask me not to take your salary? Or do you want to beg me for some pocket money?"
The man stared at Mika, pulled a thick stack of banknotes from his pocket, and waved them around with a wicked grin, "If you want money, then beg me for it!"
Mika remained indifferent; this was not the first time this had happened, and she was long used to it.
Gamblers were like this: when they had no money, they were beasts; when they won, they became arrogant and domineering, squandering their cash everywhere. Until it was all gone, and they turned back into beasts. It was like an endless cycle.
The man continued his one-man show; in his eyes, Mika's silence was merely due to shame.
He shoved the money back into his pocket and laughed to himself.
"Want money? Not a chance. Any money that is mine stays mine. Even if I'm rich, I won't give you a single cent."
"Back when I was winning money gambling, you hoarded the household funds and wouldn't give me a penny. You forced me to take it by force. Now that I've made it big, don't even think about getting a cent from me."
"Let's get a divorce!" Mika's firm voice rang out.
As if a duck had been grabbed by the throat, the man stopped laughing, his face flushed red, and he asked in disbelief, "You cheap woman, are you confused? I'm rich now, and you're asking me for a divorce?"
"That's right, I must divorce you this time."
Mika remained firm. She turned, took a document from the cabinet, and handed it to the man.
"This is a divorce agreement. You just need to sign your name on it."
The man stared daggers at Mika, feeling his dignity had been offended, and sneered, "Divorce? What kind of joke is this? You cheap woman, have you forgotten where this is?"
"This is the Uchiha Clan. You're asking me for a divorce here? That brat of yours has the blood of the Uchiha Clan flowing through him; the Uchiha Clan would never let you take him away."
"What, cheap woman, have you finally come to your senses? Want to get rid of that brat?"
Mika took two deep breaths; the man before her was repulsive. Every word challenged her psychological bottom line, making her want to explode in anger.
But she could not let anger cloud her reason.
"I want you to give up custody of A-Cheng."
"Why should I?"
"I am willing to give you ninety percent of my salary every month," Mika said firmly. "As long as you are willing to give up custody of A-Cheng, ninety percent of my salary will be yours."
"What? Ninety percent? Are you crazy? Is that brat worth that much money?"
The man could not understand; in his eyes, family and blood ties were not worth half a copper coin. He could not comprehend, let alone accept, that there could be someone as stupid as Mika in this world. That money was enough for him to place many more bets.
"As long as you sign, you can collect money from me in the future."
"Hey, hey, hey, you cheap woman, is there something wrong with your brain? Usually, when I take money from you, you act like you're dying, but now you're handing it over voluntarily. Then why are you even bothering with a divorce? You'd have to give me money after the divorce anyway."
"I cannot let A-Cheng live with a father like you," Mika said without a moment's hesitation.
Watching Mika, who was dead set on the divorce, the man picked up the divorce agreement and scanned it at a glance. After confirming it was exactly as Mika had described, he muttered, "The terms seem decent enough."
The man used the agreement to fan himself, then tore the papers in his hand into shreds, one by one.
"Why?" Mika demanded. "That money is enough for you to gamble with."
The man said mockingly, "Ninety percent? How could ninety percent be enough? I want it all!"
The man stood up and slapped Mika across the face, sending her staggering, then laughed loudly. "If we divorce, I only get ninety percent. If we don't divorce, I can snatch every last cent. Only a fool would agree to a divorce."
"Stinking woman, hand over the money you have. Your salary for this month just came in; give it to me obediently and don't force me to use my hands."
Mika straightened her body and looked at the man without a hint of fear.
"I have deposited the money with a colleague. She is from the Hyuga Clan. If you do not agree to the divorce, you won't get a single cent from now on."
"You stinking woman, you're courting death!"
The man was furious. Although the Uchiha Clan ran rampant in the village, the Hyuga Clan was one of the few ninja clans that dared to stand up to them.
He acted like a tyrant at home, but in the Uchiha Clan, where strength was everything and the weak were prey to the strong, he was nothing more than a piece of trash.
If the money were truly in the hands of someone from the Hyuga Clan, he wouldn't dare to demand it from them, and he really wouldn't be able to get a single cent.
