Background / History

The Nine-Tails was sealed inside Uzumaki Naruto by Minato. Its chakra gradually leaked through the seal and was unconsciously converted into Naruto's chakra, giving Naruto exceptionally deep reserves from childhood. 1

Naruto first confronted it in his internal space at the age of three. The Nine-Tails appeared behind an immense iron gate and offered Naruto its power in exchange for removing the seal. Naruto refused, deciding he was not yet strong enough to control it. 4

When Naruto later returned to the sealing space intending to tame it, the Nine-Tails sensed Naruto's hostility and recognized the presence of Uchiha ocular power nearby. It correctly inferred that the Uchiha intended to release it, comparing Naruto's situation to Kushina's past. 15

Daohuo and Shui Uchiha subsequently shattered the seal. The Nine-Tails emerged in physical form, attempted to attack the Uchiha, and was briefly affected by Daohuo's Mangekyo Sharingan genjutsu. Naruto then merged into its body with Triple Inversion and used Twin Palms to suppress its consciousness, taking control of the fox during the battle against Hiruzen. 16

After Hiruzen's death, Naruto chose not to erase the Nine-Tails' memories as originally planned. Instead, he implanted a fabricated shared history: that both had returned from a future in which Kaguya Ōtsutsuki defeated them. This convinced the Nine-Tails that Naruto was a fellow transmigrator and gave them a common motive to grow stronger. 19

Appearance

The Nine-Tails is an enormous fiery-red fox whose size and chakra pressure overwhelm ordinary observers. It is confined behind a colossal iron gate within Naruto's internal space before its release. 4

It is also perceptive. It senses Naruto's malice, detects Uchiha ocular power, and recognizes the danger of a jinchūriki being used as a tool. 15

Following Naruto's memory alteration, its attitude shifts into cooperation. It speaks to Naruto like an old companion, assists with chakra-based techniques, and independently cultivates natural energy. Its abrasive humor remains intact, particularly in its insults toward Shukaku. 19 22 42
