When Conan stepped out of the interview room after finishing his statement, he happened to run into Akechi Goro, who was also entering the corridor.
The officer escorting him out thanked him the whole way, the gratitude on his face entirely genuine.
"I merely did what I could and offered some assistance. This sort of work hardly gives one a sense of accomplishment." Akechi Goro, carrying his briefcase as usual, smiled gently and looked every bit the refined gentleman. "Going to a birthday party only to help the host determine how the guest of honor died is truly regrettable."
It was an extremely diplomatic way of putting it. Judging by the humble wording he had chosen, aside from giving a statement and recounting everything that had happened last night, Akechi Goro seemed to be helping the police explain Reika Shifui's death as well.
Considering that he might very well have some indescribable connection to it, the scene was rather ridiculous.
"I understand how you feel, but we still have to thank you for assisting the forensics department with their analysis. The traces at the scene were simply too chaotic..."
