Mori Kogoro came home carrying bags upon bags of groceries, only to be greeted by the synchronized stares of a row of high schoolers sitting on the agency sofa.
For an instant, Mori Kogoro remembered a documentary he had seen: parent birds painstakingly bringing food back to the nest, only to find a row of downy chicks crying out and opening their beaks wide as they waited to be fed.
An indescribable exhaustion welled up inside him. For a brief moment, Mori Kogoro empathized with housewives responsible for feeding an entire family.
Taking care of these little freeloaders who did nothing but eat was seriously exhausting...
"Hattori went missing?"
Very quickly, Mori Kogoro heard something that sent his blood pressure even higher.
"If it were only that his phone couldn't be reached, it might not be a big problem. But Miss Toyama is unreachable too." Tangze nodded and explained the situation. "The odds of both of them losing contact at the same time are too low."
"They're punctual people. This morning, they already said they'd wait until we came home from school so we could have dinner together." Ran Mouri's brow was tightly furrowed as well. "If something unusual came up, I think they would have informed us."
"Tangze said you knew the person they went to see today, so we came to ask you." Shinichi Kudo looked at Mori Kogoro, gazing at that familiar face he had seen day in and day out for so long, and felt a wave of emotion.
He had spent so long pretending to be an elementary schooler that he could no longer speak so freely. Now that he used polite language, even he found it unfamiliar.
"You kids really do love worrying. What could possibly happen from paying a visit to a detective?"
