"Enomoto Hiro, Fukuchi Naokazu, and Degawa Toshiaki..." Miwako Sato briefly reviewed the three men's explanations for why they had been driving around nearby and frowned.
Their explanations for why traffic cameras had captured them passing the crime scene were neither flawless nor absolutely suspicious.
That was perfectly normal. Rather, it was what fit ordinary people's lives and habits. As a result, determining which of the three was most suspicious had become difficult once again.
"What do we do? Are we really going to follow Ayumi's suggestion and have each of them shout once?" Wataru Takagi tilted his head and asked quietly.
"It would be too deliberate to make that request outright, and it could easily make them suspicious. It isn't hard to alter the state of one's vocal cords slightly and make a cry different from one's usual voice." Miwako Sato gently shook her head.
"Should we arrange for them to go in so Ayumi can identify them?" Wataru Takagi carefully observed the three men's heights and builds as he made the suggestion, though he had already rejected the idea in his mind.
Their facial features differed greatly, but the three suspects really were similar in height and build. Once they put on raincoats that covered their heads and faces, it would be difficult to tell them apart. Putting that much pressure on an elementary schoolgirl was not very appropriate either.
"Let's treat a dead horse as if it were alive." Miwako Sato shared the same thought, but in her view, the urgent matter was not making the child give an answer immediately. It was finding a reason to hold the three men.
Detaining them without grounds would be difficult, but needing an eyewitness to identify them was an excellent reason.
She needed to buy time for the other detectives
