Mori Kogoro marched into the hotel lobby with heavy footsteps, fury still simmering inside him, and immediately spotted Edogawa Conan waiting on the sofa.
Perhaps his daughter's comfort over the phone had worked, or perhaps the two punches he had thrown at Takada had let off some steam. Either way, Mori Kogoro's expression was relatively calm.
He stopped beside Conan and scrutinized the watch tightly fastened around the boy's wrist with a grave expression.
That thing was like a death warrant.
"What did Ran mean just now?" Remembering how his daughter had fastened it onto her wrist, Mori Kogoro took a deep breath and restrained his emotions. "And you...?"
There was no shortage of reproach in his words.
Mori Kogoro had vaguely realized Conan's situation. Part of why he had felt at ease letting his daughter leave with the child earlier was because Conan would be there to watch over her.
They might disagree on many things, but when it came to Ran, their thoughts were surely the same.
Conan raised a hand in a silencing gesture, then pointed at the ID on his wrist.
That madman had already used bombs. Could they assume he had thoughtfully refrained from planting listening devices too?
Mori Kogoro took the note Conan handed him and read its contents carefully. The deep furrow between his brows eased slightly.
Well, fortunately, Professor Agasa had been farsighted. Aside from Conan himself, no one else had actually put one on and been threatened.
As he sighed in relief, he lowered his head and examined the device on Conan's wrist again.
The ID card's LCD screen was already lit, emitting a faint glow beneath the lights. Even the rounded digits had clearly been designed to suit the user, making it look cute, gentle, and completely harmless.
