Miao Teng'er's thoughts exploded into a chaotic tangle. Her emotions were just as tumultuous—excitement, sorrow, joy, pain, longing, all the bittersweet flavors of yearning surged forth at once.

It had been nearly a year since the Demon Lord returned to the Spirit Realm. Throughout that year, she had pretended not to care, pretended to grit her teeth in hatred, and sneered before her elders that he had gotten what he deserved.

But only she knew that not a single day had passed without her longing for him, nor had her pain and grief faded for even a day.

Day and night, she missed that heartless, faithless man who nonetheless hid a tender side beneath it all.

Tears instantly blurred her vision and streamed down her cheeks. Miao Teng'er stared dazedly at that familiar face and choked out:

"Y-you..."

She had wanted to say, Weren't you dead?

But the words caught in her throat, and her tears flowed even harder.

"Tsk, tsk, what a pitiful sight. Teng'er is especially charming when she cries. I seriously suspect the Demon Lord liked bullying her because of this." The man beside the bed raised his brows and spoke in his uniquely raspy voice:

"I'm not dead. That was merely an illusion to deceive the world. I laid low for a while to avoid the heat. Lurking in the shadows was all for the day I would soar to greatness. When I return, I will surely have become a supreme god, and I will reclaim what belongs to me."

He lifted Miao Teng'er's pointed chin, a wickedly arrogant smile curling at his lips.

"Like you!

"Now that I'm back, how does it feel to be kidnapped by yours truly again?"

He deliberately mentioned the kidnapping again to reinforce his identity as the Demon Lord.
