"Twice? Why didn't I know?"

"Of course your most trusted teacher, John Russell, didn't want you to know. At this difficult moment, he has nearly ruined Britain!"

Prince Albert could no longer hold back. He felt the war was entirely the result of the Whig Party leader's single-minded obstinacy.

Prince Albert came from the German lands himself. He knew all too well what this so-called Germany, this so-called Holy Roman Empire, really was. To regard it as a potential rival was an ignorant and laughable idea.

Prince Albert knew that the Germans were nothing but a loose scattering of sand. His own family had taken part in nearly every major war, yet had never put forth much effort. That had never stopped them from maintaining their status.

In Prince Albert's eyes, this was true not only of the Germans, but of the entire Germanic People.

He had made it clear in On the Germanic Mindset and a Brief History of Germanic Civilization that the Germanic People's barbarism had never changed from ancient times to the present. The only change was that the stones and clubs in their hands had become rifles and cannons, while their tribes had become nations.

Even during the Frankish Kingdom, tribes and nations had alternated. The so-called kings were no more than powerful tribal chiefs, no different from the German Confederation of today.

As for the so-called title of Emperor of the German Empire, Prince Albert was even more disdainful. Wasn't it simply the title of Holy Roman Emperor under a different name?

The Austrians had ruled the Holy Roman Empire for hundreds of years, and they had never become much of a threat. Instead, they had even lost the throne of Spain.

Prince Albert had even less faith in John Russell and Palmerston's supposed concerns.
