British Foreign Secretary George Villiers was also helpless. Those words actually fit Lajos Kossuth's persona perfectly, but this new Kossuth was indeed becoming harder and harder to control.

That new Kossuth had clearly begun to think of himself as a dish in his own right, yet Britain's position at the time made it difficult to deal with him. After all, it was the British Foreign Office that had placed Kossuth upon a pedestal, and real resources had gone into it.

Johnny, an officer under George Villiers, had also sought out Kossuth.

"You'd better make it clear to yourself who you're working for."

Johnny, the officer under George Villiers, had expected Kossuth to fall into a panic, but there was not the slightest trace of it on the other man's face.

"I work only for God and the people."

Kossuth's reply left Officer Johnny speechless for quite some time.

"What kind of God-forsaken God is that? We are your God! You're nothing but a third-rate theater actor!"

Officer Johnny knew Kossuth's background inside out, so he showed him not the slightest respect. If the man before him had not borne some resemblance to Kossuth, he would probably still be a third-rate actor at the theater.

Calling him a third-rate theater actor was actually putting it kindly. In truth, this new Kossuth had been a laborer in the troupe, playing bit parts while doing odd jobs.

Though he was already advanced in years, no one considered him some seasoned old actor. They only saw him as an old fool. Officer Johnny still remembered how humble and ridiculous the man before him had once been. When he learned Johnny's identity, he had only dared to remove his hat, lower his head, and stand to one side, not even daring to look at him.
