Lakshmi Bai could not help thinking of that man again. Every word he had said was a lie. He had only been using her, toying with everything she had in the palm of his hand.
At heart, Lakshmi Bai was still an unyielding warrior. Humiliated and enraged, she naturally had no mind to worry about such things. With one slash, she was about to cleave the damned old man before her in two.
But how could a local tyrant like him possibly lack helpers at his side? An iron rod blocked the blade, while several bodyguards nearby had already drawn their pistols.
Fortunately, Lakshmi Bai's maids drew their guns as well, and the two sides fell into a standoff. Two maids stepped forward to shield their Queen behind them, but in an instant a great crowd had gathered around them.
Others might not have understood, but Lakshmi Bai understood German. The people around them were furious. They wanted to hang every slave aboard the ship, then expel the merchant who had delivered them from the guild forever.
Lakshmi Bai tightened her grip on her curved blade. She had already prepared herself to die. She would never retreat again.
Just then, a commotion suddenly broke out in the crowd. Two ranks of cavalry escorted a carriage over.
"Governor has arrived!"
At the cavalry officer's shout, the crowd immediately parted like receding tides. Even the tall, thin old man who had been howling in pain scrambled away to hide at the side, as though the wound on his head no longer hurt quite so much.
The carriage had barely come to a stop when the attendants hurriedly set down a broad, multi-stepped mounting stool. Then the door opened, and a round hand in a white glove reached out.
