Kosiko had every right to be proud. After all, he was the lobby manager of the Bank of New York, the second-largest bank in the United States.

Today, as usual, he sat in his office smoking a cigar and looking over the latest prices for land across the country.

Suddenly, a young man came stumbling in. Before he could even speak, Kosiko said:

"Look at you, Jim. We're the second-largest bank in the United States. Rushing around like this will make our high-end customers think we're unreliable. Remember, no matter what happens, always stay elegant."

"Mr. Kosiko, there's a gentleman outside asking to exchange two million dollars for gold."

"What! Gold!?" Kosiko cried.

"Yes, he wants gold, not banknotes." Young Jim seemed to know what Kosiko was about to ask and spoke first.

"My God, two million in gold? Damn it!" Kosiko slapped his own face hard, trying to calm himself down.

Kosiko understood how serious this was. Two million was almost all of his reserves. Even the largest bank in the country couldn't withstand paying out two million dollars in gold at once.

This may not be a simple withdrawal. It could be a run orchestrated by a rival bank. After all, everyone in American banking knows the truth: the number of dollar banknotes in circulation has far exceeded what the banks in the country can redeem.

When he entered the VIP room, Kosiko met the young gentleman. The young man had a finely sculpted face with sharp features. With his top hat and tailcoat, Kosiko could tell that he was certainly a British nobleman.
