Ch. 501Regarding How to Deal with Obito
Key events
- Obito takes control of the cavern and orders the White Zetsu to report all activity to him, keep cultivating the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, and avoid contacting Black Zetsu or revealing the location.
- He burns Madara’s corpse, declaring that Madara’s plan ends with him.
- From a hidden void, Manji observes Obito and considers several ways to stop him: erase him, lure him back toward the original storyline, or monitor him while quietly countering his plans. He rejects each option as too risky or passive.
- Manji decides to confront Obito directly. Appearing in the forest, he transports Obito and the attached White Zetsu into a gray-white dimension where Kamui is suppressed.
- Obito is shocked to discover that he cannot use his signature space-time ability. Manji tells him not to waste his effort and begins their conversation.
Character developments
- Obito acts decisively and independently, severing Madara’s influence, taking command of the White Zetsu, and disposing of Madara’s remains without sentiment. Though composed, he becomes visibly alarmed when Manji disables Kamui.
- Manji shifts from detached observation to direct intervention. He recognizes that Obito’s choices have made him unusually unpredictable and dangerous, and approaches him because neither force nor passive monitoring seems reliable.
- White Zetsu submits to Obito’s authority and accompanies him, while remaining under orders to maintain the cavern and statue.
Character interactions
- Obito asserts control over the White Zetsu through a threat; they agree to obey.
- Obito silently rejects Madara’s legacy by burning his body.
- Manji and Obito meet face-to-face for the first time. Obito responds with suspicion and prepares to use Kamui, but Manji overwhelms him by pulling him into a dimension where that power cannot function.
Significant themes
- Agency versus fate: Obito is abandoning the established storyline and pursuing his own course.
- Control and power: Obito claims authority over Madara’s forces, but Manji demonstrates a greater power that can neutralize even Dual Kamui.
- Uncertainty and intervention: Manji’s plans repeatedly fail because Obito is too clear-headed and unpredictable to manipulate through familiar events.
