"It's here!"
Grey Wolf trotted over to Feng Tianyu's side, eyeing the yellow spirit ring with a face full of awe.
This was the first time Grey Wolf had witnessed the unique Douluo Continent practice of slaying spirit beasts to extract spirit rings. The bloody scene was enough to make even a wolf like him feel a chill down his spine.
He was a wolf, yes, but back on the Green Green Grassland, he was a herbivorous wolf who had never once eaten a sheep.
At this moment, Grey Wolf's legs were truly turning to jelly.
Feng Tianyu, however, was immersed in the excitement of absorbing his first spirit ring. With Mu En guarding them, he had no need to worry about humans or spirit beasts interrupting the process.
He immediately sat down cross-legged. Grey Wolf, sharing a telepathic bond with him, assumed the same meditative posture.
Man and wolf began to circulate their meditation techniques in unison, sending a summons to the yellow spirit ring.
In an instant, the yellow spirit ring trembled, drifted over to the pair, and finally settled around Grey Wolf's body, rapidly shrinking as it merged into his form.
Violent wind-attribute energy, sharp as blades, began to ravage Grey Wolf's body.
The pain forced a blood-curdling shriek from Grey Wolf. He opened his eyes, his lupine face twisted in agony, and he leaped three feet into the air before hitting the ground and rolling back and forth.
Fortunately, as a martial soul, Grey Wolf was a pure energy construct. Had he been flesh and blood, the violent wind energy churning inside him would have shredded his internal organs, tendons, and bones into a thousand pieces.
Under the onslaught of that energy, Grey Wolf's body swelled like an inflated balloon, growing to three times its original size, as if it were about to burst at any second.
Fortunately, at this moment, the energy from the spirit ring was buffered by Grey Wolf's body and fed back into Feng Tianyu's, preventing Grey Wolf from literally exploding.
The energy remained immense, stretching Feng Tianyu's meridians until they felt bloated and agonizing, but thankfully, it remained within a tolerable range.
Feng Tianyu accelerated his absorption of the spirit ring energy. Hearing Grey Wolf's agonizing screams, he thought with a pang of guilt:
I really owe it to Grey Wolf. It's only because he's sharing the burden that I can absorb this energy with such ease.
I must speed up. The sooner I finish absorbing this energy, the less suffering Grey Wolf will have to endure.
With this thought in mind, Feng Tianyu threw himself heart and soul into the absorption process.
The spirit ring energy raced through his meridians like a windmill. After being refined, it finally merged into his dantian, becoming one with his own spirit power.
Pop!
A faint, crisp sound echoed from within Feng Tianyu's body. The bottleneck of level ten spirit power that had trapped him was suddenly shattered by the surging energy, pushing his spirit power to level 11 and officially making him a Spirit Master.
At this point, only one-third of the spirit ring's energy had been absorbed, leaving two-thirds still waiting for Feng Tianyu.
Feeling invigorated, Feng Tianyu found that after breaking through the level ten bottleneck, his efficiency in absorbing the spirit ring energy had greatly increased, allowing him to refine the remaining energy much faster.
This made things much easier for Grey Wolf; his body, which had been swollen into a ball, began to shrink at a visible rate.
Though Grey Wolf was still baring his teeth in pain, it was at least bearable now. He sat back down cross-legged, resuming his meditation to absorb the spirit ring energy as well.
Seeing the man and wolf absorbing the spirit ring energy simultaneously, Mu En once again marveled at the sight.
This miraculous external martial soul could actually share the pressure of absorbing a spirit ring and even actively circulate meditation techniques to assist in the process.
It was truly incredible!
In the history of Spirit Masters, there had never been a martial soul with such high intelligence.
This only made him think even more highly of Feng Tianyu!
A look of deepening anticipation appeared in Mu En's cloudy, aged eyes:
"I have traveled to the Sun Moon Empire many times over the years, watching their spirit guidance technology change with each passing day. Their momentum is fierce, and the five major spirit engineer legions of the Hand of the Nation have seen their overall strength skyrocket. What once posed no threat to a Title Douluo is now something even an average Title Douluo would find suicidal to face."
"The three original empires of the Douluo Continent remain stubborn, refusing to go all-out in developing spirit guidance technology, foolishly believing that high-level Spirit Masters can dictate everything. Even within Shrek Academy, this mindset persists."
"But they do not realize that unless one reaches the level of a Limit Douluo, an ordinary Title Douluo is no longer enough to dominate the battlefield."
"Heaven has eyes. Ancestor Tang San has sent Feng Tianyu to Shrek Academy. Not only does he possess Twin Martial Souls, but one of them is a Body Martial Soul. As long as Tianyu grows up and attaches nine 100,000-year spirit rings to his Body Martial Soul, he will become the strongest on the continent beneath the gods."
"I dare not say he can fight the Sun Moon Empire single-handedly, but at the very least, he can make them wary and buy more time for the three original empires and Shrek Academy."
"My time is running out; I can hold on for ten years at most. Within my remaining years, I must cultivate Tianyu to become the pillar that holds up the sky and the beam that supports the sea for Shrek Academy."
Thus, because Mu En was filled with such high expectations for Feng Tianyu, he was extremely diligent while acting as their guardian.
No human or spirit beast was able to come within a hundred meters of their location.
Four hours later, Feng Tianyu successfully absorbed the spirit ring. A yellow ring rose slowly beneath his feet, pulsing rhythmically and radiating a faint sense of pressure.
Feng Tianyu opened his eyes, a brilliant glow shimmering within them. He stood up, his frame having grown ten centimeters taller. His shoulders were broader, and though he looked lean, the muscle contours beneath his clothes were distinct, giving him an air of toughness and hidden power.
Although it was only a 500-year spirit ring, it came from a top-tier spirit beast, the Gale Two-Headed Wolf, and the boost it provided to Feng Tianyu was immense.
Grey Wolf, having forgotten the pain as soon as the wound healed, completely disregarded the fact that he had been rolling on the ground screaming just moments ago. He looked up at the sky and boasted triumphantly:
"Woo!"
"Now this Great King is full of power! If I go back to the Green Green Grassland, those little sheep will never escape my grasp!"
"This world is amazing! To think it could grant this Great King such formidable strength!"
Watching Feng Tianyu and Grey Wolf wake up one after the other, Mu En's eyes crinkled in delight. He asked with a chuckle:
"How does it feel? A 500-year spirit ring from a Gale Two-Headed Wolf—I trust the improvement it has brought you both is quite substantial!"
Feng Tianyu had no reason to hide information that wasn't exactly a secret:
"I can sense that my soul power has reached about level 13 and a half. This 500-year soul ring is no worse than a thousand-year one."
"Also, Grey Wolf, show Mu En what you've got!"
Grey Wolf and Feng Tianyu shared a telepathic connection. As the soul ring beneath Feng Tianyu's feet flared with light, roughly one-third of the soul power within his body surged into Grey Wolf.
Grey Wolf erupted with a dense cyan radiance, a stark contrast to the pale light from before. Its control over the wind attribute was now incomparable to its previous state.
"Feast your eyes on this! Wind Blade Array!"
With a loud shout, Grey Wolf swung its claws, unleashing eight wind blades, each over half a foot long. They were the result of highly compressed gales, shimmering with a cyan luster, and the cold glint they emitted made one's hair stand on end.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The wind blades tore through the air with a sharp whistle, striking the Gale Two-Headed Wolf. In an instant, the beast was dismembered, its blood, mangled flesh, and viscera splattered across the ground, making the already bloody scene even more gruesome.
Mu En watched with bright eyes:
"Truly impressive, an eye-opener!"
"The formidable attack power of these wind blades is not a whit inferior to a thousand-year soul skill. I can guarantee that if these blades were to strike a person, even some Soul Elder would be unable to withstand them."
"This 500-year Gale Two-Headed Wolf soul ring can be entirely regarded as a mediocre 5000-year soul ring."
"If my eyes do not deceive me, it is the boost your Grey Wolf martial soul provides to wind attribute control that is the most astonishing; it has already reached a level approaching Ultimate Wind."
