The referee immediately produced a Red Gem Promotion Card and sent Suarez off for biting.
Suarez offered no defense. He simply took off his jersey and clutched it in his hands. With no expression on his face, he walked off the field in a daze.
The referee went over to Araujo, first checking on his injury and telling him to leave the pitch to stop the bleeding. Then he took out a Yellow Gem War God Card and showed it to him.
The yellow card was for his earlier foul on Suarez from behind. The referee hadn't stopped play at the time because Barcelona had an advantage.
Once the ball went out of play, he showed Araujo the card.
Araujo offered no defense either. His earlier challenge had certainly warranted a yellow card.
But trading one yellow for one red—and getting the opposing team's main striker sent off at that—was a deal worth making.
Araujo reached the sidelines, where the team doctor hurried to treat his wound.
There were still ten men on each side, but the balance of the game had begun to tilt in Barcelona's favor.
After all, the opposition's most dangerous attacker had been sent off, and in such a humiliating fashion.
