Background / History
Li Dingguo established the Revival Army after organizing five camps under the names of the Five Divine Beasts. Cao Yongxiang, Tang Guangqiang, Huang Zhanglong, Liang Hetang, and Red Plum became camp commanders, while the female-only Vermilion Bird Camp became the Personal Guard Camp. 128
The newly formed force left the pass with standardized clothing and unusually strict marching order. It absorbed displaced people at Dingbian City, purchasing grain and weapons before departing with more than 115,000 new soldiers and civilians. 133 135 Its early expansion depended on hunting, raids against hostile strongholds, recruitment, captured supplies, and the acquisition of Soul Beads and other cultivation resources. 136 145 146
After moving onto the grasslands, the army combined military operations with settlement building. It developed a base around Great Spirit Lake and a medium-sized Spirit Land, constructed Lake Heart Island as its future headquarters, and organized agriculture, crafts, logistics, and cultivation-resource production alongside combat training. 182 185 227
The Revival Army entered the pass after three years of development, rapidly taking forts, towns, and cities in Yansui and surrounding regions. Its simultaneous land and water offensives soon secured much of northeastern Qin, the Yellow River basin between Qin and Jin, and later large areas of Jin, Xuanfu, Liaodong, and the Central Plains. 316 335 400 432 485
Its later campaigns establish it as a dominant power on both land and sea. It defeats major Tartar armies, captures Shengjing, overcomes the Zheng Family Army at sea, expands against overseas threats, and fields expeditionary forces capable of large-scale teleportation deployment. 367 460 470 502 541

Military Doctrine
Military Killing Formations
The Revival Army’s central battlefield advantage is the Military Killing Formation, which unifies the soldiers’ Qi and Blood Power into large-scale formation attacks. It can generate Qi and Blood Wolf Smoke, protect soldiers against lower-level Malevolent Spirits, and manifest destructive killing techniques. 146 216 366
- A Qi Refining Realm commander leading 2,000 elite soldiers can use the formation to contend with an early Fifth Layer Martial Dao expert. 177
- A 10,000-soldier formation led by a Qi Refining Realm expert can force even Cao Bianjiao to retreat if he fights alone. 177
- The army later employs formations numbering hundreds of thousands of soldiers during the assault on Shengjing. 460
- Large enemy formations can withstand cannon fire, requiring the Revival Army to meet formation with formation rather than relying on artillery alone. 366
Elite Cavalry and Long-Range Raids
The army uses Spirit Beast Warhorses, Treasure Ships, rotating deployment, and rapid raids to keep combat units rested and mobile. 152 166 209
- Combat Soldiers are eventually equipped with at least Mid-Grade Flood Dragon Scale Horses. 227
- Each soldier of the million-strong land army is reportedly assigned two mounts, enabling exceptional long-distance mobility. 403
- Scout and intelligence personnel are assigned Three-tailed Iron-backed Demonic Wolves for speed, stealth, and personal protection. 170
- Long-range raid forces travel light without Logistics Camp personnel when speed is essential. 209
Artillery and Concentrated Fire
The army fields Spirit Energy Cannons, Spirit Crossbow Carts, and dedicated artillery formations. 190 207
- Each of the five major combat legions initially receives a 1,000-man artillery battalion with ten artifact-grade Spirit Energy Cannons and thirty artifact-grade Spirit Crossbow Carts. 207
- Later legions are equipped with 150 cannons and 1,500 crossbow carts each, while the Black Tortoise Legion receives triple that allocation. 358
- Firearm Battalions use Guardian Array Formations and concentrated fire to eliminate Qi Refining Realm Demonic Beasts. 299
- Cluster bombardment weakens enemy formations before Military Killing Formations engage them directly. 301
- By the Later Jin campaign, each participating major legion fields 1,000 Spirit Energy Cannons. 518
Naval Warfare
The Naval Forces originated from the repurposed Black Tortoise Camp and grew through repeated captures of enemy Treasure Ships. 166 190
- The force operates mid-, high-, and peak-grade Treasure Ships captured from rival armies and merchant forces. 164 262
- Naval forces transport cavalry and supplies for long-range raids, allowing soldiers and warhorses to arrive rested. 166
- The navy uses pincer maneuvers, artillery fire, Guardian Array Formations, and shore-based support against enemy fleets. 424 425
- The army becomes the dominant southeastern coastal force after defeating the Zheng Family Army. 470
Equipment / Resources
- Standard black uniforms and armor — Adopted for stealth-oriented grassland warfare and later became the army’s recognizable appearance. 146 371
- Spirit Weapon Sets — Captured and forged sets are used to equip elite Martial Artists and later regular combat troops. 145 315
- Spirit Beast Warhorses — A core component of its cavalry mobility and formation strength. 152 227
- Treasure Ships — Used for transport, naval combat, raids, logistics, and fleet expansion. 166 262
- Spirit Energy Cannons and Spirit Crossbow Carts — The army’s primary concentrated-fire weapons; their ammunition requires Soul Beads or Demon Cores. 209 316
- Magic Tool identity tokens — Used by soldiers and civilians for administration, recordkeeping, and counterintelligence. 331
- Five Elements Spirit Gathering Arrays — Support cultivation-resource production by gathering spiritual energy and accelerating Spirit Grass and Spirit Root growth. 131
- City Protection Arrays — Defend the army’s settlements and enable towns to withstand stronger invading forces during the Great Tribulation. 557
Civil Administration and Recruitment
The Revival Army integrates soldiers and civilians into a single development system. New arrivals receive food, shelter, protection from abuse, and the possibility of martial training, while civilians contribute to logistics, agriculture, construction, and manufacturing. 135 185 241
- It recruits displaced people on a mass scale, including more than 600,000 Han people during one campaign and over one million displaced people through detached fleets. 199 269
- All Han common people seeking refuge are ordered to be treated equally and resettled properly. 403
- Military merit can be exchanged for Spirit Pills and artifacts, allowing tens of thousands of Martial Soldiers to overcome cultivation bottlenecks. 198 199
- The army applies a strict screening process to recruits and civilians; one screening operation identifies more than 3,000 spies. 269
- Its selection system does not distinguish between male and female recruits. 485
- Regular army recruitment is highly selective: at a later stage, roughly one hundred Martial Artists compete for each qualified Combat Soldier position. 518
Settlements and Infrastructure
The Revival Army builds self-sufficient military-civilian bases centered on Spirit Lands and defensible transport routes. 182 227
- Lake Heart Island — Developed into the army’s headquarters, including a military headquarters complex built by more than 200,000 soldiers and civilians. 182
- Great Spirit Lake sub-bases — Eighty-one sub-bases are constructed at intervals of 500 li, arranged around the lake according to the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams. 227
- Naval bases — Established along the Jialu River and later proposed or developed at strategic islands and coastal ports. 175 398
- Fortified towns — Cities under Revival Army rule combine farms, Magic Arrays, artillery positions, and local production to remain self-sufficient under siege. 431
- Teleportation Array network — Important strongholds use large Teleportation Arrays for reinforcement; a single large array can transport up to 100,000 people when mounts are included. 541 557
