Background
Yu Feiyan was born to fruit-selling parents in Nuoding City. Her family was not destitute, but could not justify the cost of sending her to a Soul Master Academy when she possessed only Level 2 innate soul power and the widely dismissed Ghost Fire martial soul. Frail, timid, and convinced that she was inferior to the other children, she expected to give up her chance at becoming a soul master. 6 7
Ying Chengfeng recognized potential in Ghost Fire, explaining that its lack of form and offensive power came from it being “dead.” He invited Yu Feiyan to leave Nuoding City with himself and Qian Renxue, promising to help her “defy the heavens and change [her] fate.” After Yu Feiyan agreed, her parents entrusted her to him; she left home with the promise that she would someday return. 6 7
In Martial Soul City, Ying Chengfeng presented her to Bibi Dong as his foster sister and attempted to have her accepted as the Pope's disciple. When Bibi Dong learned that Yu Feiyan possessed Ghost Fire and Level 2 innate soul power, Ying Chengfeng instead declared that he would personally raise her into a Titled Douluo and prove that no martial soul was inherently useless. 8 9
At the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well, Yu Feiyan first consumed an immortal herb that rapidly raised her soul power. She later chose to gamble on the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower, enduring its rebirth-like fire while Ying Chengfeng used his Wind Domain to form a weakened ice-fire environment around her. The process reshaped her body, altered her appearance, and laid the foundation for Ghost Fire's revival. 15 16
Yu Feiyan then traveled to the Far North with Ying Chengfeng and Qian Renxue. She obtained her first soul ring from a mysterious clawed soul beast, fully revived Ghost Fire, and gained an External Soul Bone. Over the following years, she trained her movement technique and combat instincts while continuing to cultivate despite the scarcity of suitable soul beasts. 17 18 19 20
At age twelve, Yu Feiyan was drawn to two Weavile Beast soul bones offered as rewards in Skywater Academy's Soul Master Challenge. After Ying Chengfeng secured them, the bones fused into her arms amid extreme pain, leaving a dragon-and-blade pattern on her left hand and causing a blue-white crystalline blade to manifest. 24 25 28
Appearance
Yu Feiyan was initially a thin, frail little girl with delicate features, straight black hair, and an unassuming demeanor. Her transformation through the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower and Ghost Fire's revival gave her a far more striking and dangerous presence. 6 16 24
- Her hair changed from long, straight black to pale purple-red with slight waves. 16
- She developed pale-purple pupils and light red eyeshadow after her rebirth process. 16
- Her Ghost Fire produces pale purplish-red mist around her body, visually resembling crimson smoke. 18
- Her External Soul Bone initially manifested as pale-red nails flecked with purple, each extending more than four centimeters and possessing sharp claw-like edges. 18
- By age twelve, she was described as attractive yet dangerous—“a rose with thorns.” 24
- Following the fusion of two arm soul bones, a dragon pierced by a blade appeared on the back of her left hand. 28
Personality
Yu Feiyan was initially shy, self-conscious, and reluctant to meet others' eyes. She believed her Ghost Fire was worthless and was deeply nervous when asked to display it before Bibi Dong. 6 9
Despite her fear, she is resilient and willing to take extraordinary risks when she trusts someone. She accepted Ying Chengfeng's offer to leave home, consumed two immortal herbs, and ultimately chose the dangerous path of reviving Ghost Fire rather than resigning herself to her original fate. 7 15 16
She is also observant and thoughtful. While watching Dugu Bo's poison-control experiment, she concluded that poison possessed life and reasoned that Ghost Fire could likewise gain life. 14 Her combat manner is direct and obedient to instruction, though she initially lacked familiarity with standard Soul Master classifications. 18 20
Abilities & Skills
Ghost Fire
Yu Feiyan's original martial soul was a blue-green, formless flame with almost no tangible presence or offensive ability. Its apparent weakness was later identified as a state of “death,” rather than an absolute lack of potential. 6 15
- Changed from blue-green to blue-purple after absorbing an immortal herb. 15
- Was revived through the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower, ice-fire tempering, and Yu Feiyan's own soul power. 16 18
- Fully synchronized with Yu Feiyan after her first soul-ring absorption. 18
- Developed a Yin-Yang attribute: a power embodying both life's rhythm and death's solitude. 18
- Produces pale purplish-red mist during activation. 18
Illusory State
Through synchronization with Ghost Fire, Yu Feiyan can briefly become illusory and pass through a target while moving at high speed. 18
- She used the ability to pass through Ying Chengfeng and appear behind him. 18
- Gu Qingbo's water-blue spear passed through Yu Feiyan without harming her during their spar. 20
- The technique was described as brief and dependent on her synchronization with Ghost Fire rather than the activation of a visible soul ring. 18
External Soul Bone: Claws
Yu Feiyan gained an External Soul Bone from her first soul-ring soul beast, whose claws had drawn Ying Chengfeng's attention as a potential source of such a bone. 17 18
- Her fingernails became long, sharp claws suitable for close combat. 18
- Her fingers became tougher after the absorption. 18
- She uses the claws with high-speed movement as an agility-attack combatant. 20
- External Soul Bones can grow alongside their owner. 18
Close-Quarters Combat
Yu Feiyan was classified by Ying Chengfeng as an agility-attack Soul Master, though his broader “Assault type” ideal combines power, agility, and control. 20
- Trained in a movement technique with Ji Qingyi for three years. 20
- Rapidly closed the distance against Level 29 Gu Qingbo. 20
- Used her illusory state and claw attack to outmaneuver Gu Qingbo within fewer than five exchanges. 20
Soul Bones
- Two Weavile Beast arm soul bones — Drawn to Yu Feiyan and fused directly into her arms. Their absorption caused severe regeneration and pain in her fingers. 24 28
- Dragon Slaying Emblem — A dragon-and-blade pattern that appeared on the back of her left hand after the arm soul-bone fusion. 28
- Blue-white crystalline blade — An unsheathed blade that manifested in Yu Feiyan's hand following the soul-bone absorption. 28

- Qian Renxue — Companion and fellow member of Ying Chengfeng's group. Qian Renxue reassured Yu Feiyan when she left home and trained alongside her in the Far North. 7 17 18
- Yu Feiyan's parents — Fruit sellers from Nuoding City. Though initially unable to support her Soul Master education, they allowed her to leave with Ying Chengfeng in hope of a better future. 7
- Bibi Dong — The Pope whose rejection of Ghost Fire inspired Ying Chengfeng's six-year challenge to demonstrate Yu Feiyan's worth. 9
- Ji Qingyi — Ying Chengfeng's mother and one of Yu Feiyan's protectors during the Far North training period; Yu Feiyan practiced movement techniques with her. 17 20
- Azure Luan Elder — Accompanied Yu Feiyan's group to the Far North and guarded the area during her martial-soul transformation. 16 17
Trivia
- Yu Feiyan's name is reflected in the pale purplish-red smoke produced after Ghost Fire's revival: “Feiyan” is explicitly likened to crimson smoke. 18
- Although Ghost Fire initially had no offensive capability, Ying Chengfeng considered its lack of presence useful for an assassin-like fighting style. 16
- Yu Feiyan did not know her own Soul Master classification until Ying Chengfeng identified her as an agility-attack type. 20
