"Illusion Brain Douluo, Han Tianyi?"
Bai Yuan was slightly taken aback as he rapidly searched his mind for the name.
Leaning back in her chair, Leng Yaozhu spoke calmly, though there was a hint of gravity in her tone. "A rank ninety-eight Title Douluo. His Martial Soul is the Brain. He is the number one in the Spirit Pagoda's spiritual realm, a Four-Word Battle Armor master, and a level-nine Mecha repairman."
Bai Yuan's pupils contracted slightly.
Rank ninety-eight, a Four-Word Battle Armor master, and the number one in the spiritual realm.
Any one of those titles alone was enough to frighten people. Having all three piled onto one person spoke volumes about his standing.
"I understand, Teacher." Bai Yuan nodded, already making plans in his heart.
"Mm." Leng Yaozhu looked at him. "Your Core Flame Martial Soul is very special. Didn't you say that as your spiritual power grew, the Core Flame would automatically condense its own Soul Spirit?
"He is the foremost figure in the Spirit Pagoda's spiritual realm. Having him examine your Martial Soul will be a good thing."
Warmth rose in Bai Yuan's heart. He said earnestly, "Thank you for going to so much trouble, Teacher. I'll work hard and learn properly from Elder Han."
Though he said that, he knew perfectly well what it meant.
The price of inviting someone like this to personally teach him could not possibly be small.
The number one in the Spirit Pagoda's spiritual realm was not someone just anyone could invite with a few words.
Leng Yaozhu had likely spent no small amount of effort and resources on behalf of him, her disciple.
Bai Yuan silently remembered this kindness.
Some things did not need to be said aloud. Knowing them in one's heart was enough.
After returning to his room, Bai Yuan quickly washed up, changed into clean clothes, and straightened his appearance in front of the mirror.
The face in the mirror was still youthful, but his gaze was far steadier than that of others his age.
He took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
Leng Yaozhu was already waiting at the end of the corridor.
Master and disciple entered the elevator one after the other.
Leng Yaozhu pressed a button without a number on it.
It was the authorization marker for the seventy-eighth floor.
The elevator rose steadily without the slightest tremor.
Bai Yuan stood half a step behind her, his expression calm while anticipation quietly stirred in his heart.
Illusion Brain Douluo.
The number one in the Spirit Pagoda's spiritual realm.
He wondered what this great figure would be able to discern from his Core Flame.
The elevator doors opened.
The instant Bai Yuan stepped out, the sight before him made him pause.
It was not the stern, oppressive training room he had imagined, nor was it a laboratory packed with soul-guided devices.
It was an Illusion Space.
The walls, ceiling, and floor were all shrouded in a faint fluorescent glow. Light and shadow flowed around them in a dreamlike display.
At times, the light gathered into stars; at others, it scattered like drifting fireflies.
It felt as though he had entered the depths of the universe, yet also as if he stood at the center of some ancient ruin.
A strange fluctuation filled the air as spiritual power naturally seeped through the space.
Gentle, yet omnipresent.
Bai Yuan instinctively clenched his fist.
This place was not simple.
Leng Yaozhu walked forward, and Bai Yuan immediately followed.
Their footsteps echoed through the vast space, every step exceptionally clear.
Ahead, a figure sat cross-legged with his back to them, seemingly meditating.
"Elder Han." Leng Yaozhu stopped. Her voice was not loud, yet it carried clearly through the space.
The figure slowly turned around.
At last, Bai Yuan saw what the number one in the Spirit Pagoda's spiritual realm looked like.
His hair was white, his face lean, but his eyes were astonishingly bright, as though they could see through every illusion.
Those eyes settled on Bai Yuan.
With just one glance, Bai Yuan felt as if something had swept over him from head to toe.
It was spiritual power.
Pure, ultimate spiritual power, as vast and crushing as mountains and seas.
Bai Yuan's body stiffened slightly, but he quickly regained his composure.
That gaze lingered on him for a moment.
Then Han Tianyi spoke, his voice aged yet full of vigor.
"Girl Leng, is this the new disciple you took in?"
"Yes." Leng Yaozhu nodded. "His Martial Soul is very special and related to spiritual power. I would like to ask Elder Han to take a look at him."
Han Tianyi's gaze fell upon Bai Yuan again, this time examining him even more carefully.
"Interesting," he murmured. A glimmer of light flashed in his eyes. "Come here, child."
Bai Yuan took a deep breath and stepped forward.
The surrounding space abruptly changed.
An invisible surge of spiritual power crashed toward him like raging waves.
There was no sound and no warning, yet it was as heavy as an entire ocean pressing down upon him.
Bai Yuan's pupils suddenly contracted.
That force carried no hostility, yet it possessed an irresistible majesty.
It poured into his mind and flooded every nerve in his body, like a pair of invisible hands brutally prying open the gates to his spiritual world.
The world spun.
Everything before his eyes swayed, twisted, and overlapped.
He felt as though his consciousness were a small boat caught in endless raging waters, liable to be torn apart and swallowed at any moment.
Breathing became difficult.
A buzzing filled his ears.
He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, his nails nearly digging into his palms.
He could not fall. He could not fall here.
Within his body, the dormant Worldbearing Coreflame flickered.
Golden light pulsed once in the darkness, like a star being ignited.
A warm yet unyielding force surged from the deepest part of his body.
It spread along his meridians into his mind, gradually soothing and suppressing the churning waves of spiritual power.
His chaotic consciousness slowly cleared.
The dizziness gradually receded.
Bai Yuan panted heavily, fine beads of sweat covering his forehead.
But his eyes.
Those eyes were still bright, stubborn and clear.
The surrounding illusions receded like the tide.
The fluorescent glow became gentle once more, and the air returned to calm.
Han Tianyi remained seated where he was. His bright eyes watched Bai Yuan, and there was now a trace of barely perceptible approval in them.
Leng Yaozhu stood to the side without making a sound, her gaze fixed tightly on Bai Yuan.
Bai Yuan steadied himself, took a deep breath, and looked up at the white-haired elder.
"Elder Han... what was that?"
"A test," Han Tianyi replied indifferently. "Your spiritual power is decent, and your foundation is stable. More importantly—"
He paused, his gaze dropping to Bai Yuan's chest as though he could see through flesh to the Core Flame within.
"The thing inside your body is not simple."
Bai Yuan's heart tightened, but his expression remained unchanged.
Han Tianyi did not press further. He merely waved a hand. "Sit down. Let me properly examine your Martial Soul."
"Kid, release your Martial Soul." Han Tianyi sat cross-legged on the ground, his tone as casual as if he were commenting on the weather.
Bai Yuan nodded, took a deep breath, and extended his left hand.
The Worldbearing Coreflame appeared.
There were no dancing flames, no scorching heat waves.
There was only an indescribable mass of light floating quietly above his palm.
Yet the aura it emitted made the entire Illusion Space tremble.
Han Tianyi's previously narrowed eyes abruptly widened.
He stared at the Core Flame. That indescribable glow was reflected in the depths of his pupils, his lips parting slightly as he remained speechless for a long while.
"This Martial Soul..." His voice was somewhat hoarse. "It truly is not simple."
Bai Yuan's heart skipped a beat, but his expression did not change.
Han Tianyi did not rush to question him. After steadying himself, he fixed his gaze on the Core Flame once more.
"Can you activate it? Let me see how it operates."
Bai Yuan fell silent.
Of course, he knew what this thing was from Honkai Star Rail.
The Titan of World-Burdening, Kephale's fallen soul, and the final savior would use it to complete a new Re-Creation.
But knowing was one thing. He had only awakened it not long ago. How could he have had time to figure out how it operated?
