Despite the aid of the air elementals, the airship ultimately failed to catch up with Alexstrasza's group. The dragons had arrived first, and by the time the Mount Hyjal reached a glacier, the battle between the dragons and the undead was already underway.
A dense swarm of flying skeletons, Frost Wyrms, and three enormous floating fortresses draped in icicles formed the Scourge's aerial forces. Though the dragons commanded the skies and could easily tear even Frost Wyrms apart, the three floating fortresses were another matter entirely.
The dragons' physical attacks of claws and fangs, as well as their arcane, frost, and fire magic, were completely ineffective against the Saronite floating fortresses. The dragons could only wheel around the three fortresses, unable to do anything to them.

Together, they used dragon breath to drive back the approaching undead, but it did little good—the masses of rotting corpses were simply too numerous.
When the Mount Hyjal finally arrived, Sylvanas relayed the scene on the glacier to Zul'ra Jin, and he immediately ordered the three floating fortresses to be fired upon.
Under Sylvanas's command, once the Mount Hyjal entered firing range, its hundred-meter-long balloon hull turned sideways. The bow and the cannons along one side took aim at a prominently positioned floating fortress and opened fire. The dragons, who had long seen the situation, immediately scattered and let
