A Hopeless Mess

To be honest, Zul'ra had hesitated over whether to truly sell out the Syndicate, but that hesitation was quickly dispelled by the Syndicate itself.

Acting on Zul'ra's orders, the Syndicate sought a candidate for king who could compete with Anduin. They found a child—Trista Ashvane of Kul Tiras, the three-year-old child of the current lord and lady of House Ashvane.

Zul'ra felt that the Syndicate had put some thought into their choice. They had picked a young child, who would be easier to control. Unfortunately, they had chosen someone from House Ashvane of Kul Tiras.

House Ashvane, House Waycrest, House Stormsong, and House Proudmoore were the four great houses of Kul Tiras. Together, they held the power of Kul Tiras in their hands.

House Ashvane was also a powerful noble house in Kul Tiras. Choosing them as the royal family of New Alterac would provide an outside supporter, which would have been fine—but the problem was that Kul Tiras had a good relationship with Stormwind.

The Ashvane heir chosen by the Syndicate could lose their outside support at any time. More importantly, Zul'ra learned from Gaodier that the Syndicate had chosen Trista Ashvane as its heir mainly because Duke Foulcrest had accepted a bribe from the Ashvane Trading Company.

Damn it. After staying in Durnholde for so long, these people were still the same as before. They had learned nothing. They had picked a royal heir as though they were merely completing an assignment. Zul'ra could not help flying into a rage. Why had he chosen such a useless bunch in the first place? They were not even as capable as the critically ill Aliden. At the very least, that man had understood how to accept Dalaran mages to balance Durnholde's political situation.

Zul'ra's preferred candidate for the Alterac throne
