Background / History

Satyrs originated from Night Elves who became demonic beings, retaining Night Elf agility and physical strength while gaining access to fel and shadow magic. Many were originally Highborne and still retain knowledge of arcane practices, including water manipulation. 15 18 39

After the defeat of the Satyr king Xavius, the remaining Satyrs lost unified leadership and dispersed into separate hidden tribes. Night Elves continued to purge them, but often regarded them as lesser threats rather than a serious long-term danger. 35 50

Nine years before the Bearclaw Valley crisis, a Satyr brought into the valley by the Furbolg priest Wumu uncovered a buried Highborne ruin and corrupted a Magic Tree seed. The resulting tree spread shadow energy, gradually driving many Bristlelimb Furbolgs into madness. 20

Appearance

In their revealed forms, Satyrs are goat-like demonic humanoids with traits remaining from their Night Elf origins.

  • Gray-brown fur grows across the face and legs. 14
  • Curved horns protrude from the head. 14
  • Their transformations can increase their stature dramatically. 14
  • They carry a foul, rotting odor. 14 38
  • They can disguise themselves as ordinary Night Elves before revealing their true forms. 14 34

Abilities & Skills

Transformation and Concealment

Satyrs are adept at hiding their identities and blending into Night Elf society. Sain Morningstar lived in Bristlelimb Village as an isolated Night Elf until his exposure, while Ordos later returned to Moonshadow Village disguised as an injured Night Elf. 14 34

  • Can assume or maintain a Night Elf-like appearance. 14 34
  • Are considered naturally skilled in transformation and concealment. 28
  • Can use stealth or nightmare power to disappear during combat. 25 27

Fel and Shadow Magic

Satyrs wield fel and shadow energies in addition to their physical abilities. Their magic can harm living creatures, corrupt animals, and interfere with healing. 2 15

  • Sain burned through Entangling Roots with shadow flames. 15
  • Sain launched barrages of shadow bolts while pursuing Kalei. 15
  • Satyr corruption left Bristlelimb villagers with wounds that resisted healing and induced nightmare-filled unconsciousness. 9
  • Satyr influence could corrupt Sabers and turn them against their riders. 14

Nightmare Corruption

The Bearclaw Valley Satyrs used nightmare power through a corrupted Magic Tree to control Furbolgs and sustain their attacks. 20 26

  • A corrupted Magic Tree continuously supplied nightmare energy to Corrupted Furbolgs, granting them near-immortal resilience. 26
  • The tree’s shadow energy corrupted Furbolgs over time and caused them to attack Night Elves. 20
  • Satyrs could use nightmare power for ambushes and concealment. 25
  • Ordos left behind a curse connected to Xavius after his death. 43 45

Arcane Knowledge

Because many Satyrs were formerly Highborne mages, some retain magical knowledge from their previous lives. 18 39

  • Ordos led high-level Satyrs through an underground river by relying on their former Frost-mage ability to control water. 39
  • The Bearclaw Valley Satyrs understood the significance of ancient Highborne ruins and Magic Tree seeds. 18 20
  • Satyr hideouts have shown traces of both shadow and arcane energy. 34

Known Satyrs

  • Sain Morningstar — A Bristlelimb Village resident who secretly served the Satyrs. He attempted to assassinate and corrupt Priestess Laria before being incapacitated by Elune’s power. 14 15
  • Ordos — The Satyr leader behind the Bearclaw Valley Magic Tree scheme. He knew of Malka Nightdew’s capture, escaped the valley, later served Savatheras, and was ultimately destroyed as a remnant soul within Kalei’s soul space. 27 38 45
  • Savatheras — A Hero-rank Satyr leader who commanded the Fel Fire Valley lair and punished Ordos for failing in Bearclaw Valley. He escaped the Sentinel assault and fled north. 38 45 46
  • Etherix — A high-level Satyr who pursued Kalei and Thisalee through the underground river, summoned Felhounds, and escaped after being wounded. 40 41 43
  • Ordan — One of Ordos’s pursuers in the underground cavern; killed during Kalei and Thisalee’s ambush. 41
  • Sorenson — A Satyr who attempted to flee the underground cavern, only to be restrained by Kalei and killed by Thisalee. 41
  • Xavius — The first Satyr and king of all Satyrs. He is described as an ancient, demigod-level being whose corrupting power can reach into the Emerald Dream. 43 44

Story Role / Major Arcs

Bristlelimb Village Corruption

Satyrs were responsible for the shadow corruption affecting Bristlelimb Village. Their attacks wounded thirteen villagers, while their dark power entered victims’ souls and trapped them in nightmares. 9

Sain Morningstar attempted to exploit the crisis by assassinating Priestess Laria and further contaminating the village Moonwell. His plot was stopped by Kalei, Lilin, and Laria. 15 16

Bearclaw Valley Conspiracy

Ordos and Wumu’s faction cultivated a corrupted Magic Tree beneath Bearclaw Valley. The tree empowered Corrupted Furbolgs and allowed Ordos to control a giant treant against Kalei’s party. 20 26

Kalei awakened the Ancient Magic Tree’s sealed consciousness with natural energy, severing Ordos’s control. Ordos escaped after revealing that he had been involved in the disappearance of Kalei’s father, Malka Nightdew. 27

Fel Fire Valley

Kalei and Thisalee discovered a large demon and Satyr base in Fel Fire Valley, containing more than two hundred visible demons and Satyrs under Savatheras’s command. 38

After their discovery was exposed, they escaped through an underground river and counterattacked the pursuing Satyrs. Ordos’s later curse led Kalei into conflict with Xavius’s influence. 39 41 43

The Sentinel Corps later cleared most of Fel Fire Valley’s demons and Satyrs, capturing survivors for interrogation. Savatheras escaped north toward the region around Fractured Scar Valley and the suspected Fel Fire Path. 45 46

Zoram Beast Captures

A separate Satyr tribe is suspected of operating around Zoram. Individuals carrying a demonic scent captured forest animals and their cubs, possibly to deliver them as sacrifices connected to an Old God servant in Lashalazar. 50

Trivia

  • Dead Satyrs at Bristlelimb Village rapidly blackened and decayed, forcing the priestesses to purify and burn their corpses. 9
  • Satyrs are dangerous even against opponents of equal rank because they combine Night Elf physical traits with fel and shadow magic. 15
  • Ordos was recorded at level 47 while disguised as a Night Elf in Green Pine Valley. 34
  • Savatheras had reached the Hero rank by the time Kalei and Thisalee found him in Fel Fire Valley. 38
