Captain Jarod Shadowsong of Suramar's city guard had finished his day's work and was walking home. The Shadowsong family had no noble blood; Jarod had earned his position through talent and hard work. His duties had grown more demanding lately. Not long ago, Archmage Yamila of the Council of Mages had assigned new orders to all troops in the city: seek out and identify anyone suspicious. He walked down a dim path. His home was in a remote area, and his salary was not enough to buy a house in this city where every inch of land was precious. Just as he thought he was nearly home and could finally get some proper sleep, a shadow darted past his eyes.
"Who's there! I saw you!" Jarod shouted, but the place was too remote for anyone to hear him. He could only pursue the shadow alone.
The shadow ran—yes, it ran fast, but Jarod was faster. Just as he was about to catch it, there was a thud, and the shadow collapsed to the ground.
"Let's see who you are!" Jarod cautiously approached and slowly reached out, intending to lift the cloak covering the shadow. Just as his hand was about to touch it, he suddenly yanked the cloak away.
"A Highborne? Hm, an unfamiliar face. Could this be the suspicious person the Archmage mentioned?" he thought. He had an excellent memory. In his position, he had to remember many people, and he had developed a knack for recalling faces. He was certain he had never seen this person before. Soon, Jarod bound the Highborne lying on the ground, hoisted him over his shoulder, and headed back. He planned to throw him into prison first. It was too late today; he would report it tomorrow.
