The ship's guns roared in silence amidst a mountain-collapsing tremor. Massive shells shrieked as they tore through the veil of space, slamming into purple-black chitinous armor just seconds later. Violent explosions and flames spread and erupted, engulfing the rugged, textured surface of the carapace.

The dazzling radiance of heavy lance arrays and clusters of ship-borne macro-cannons lit up the dark night sky, as countless laser beams and solid projectiles transformed the galaxy into a dense rain of fire.

Innumerable beams and shells wove together, striking head-on like a torrential storm in a gale against the void-beasts prowling toward them.

The Tyranids Hive Fleet surged from the direction of Victoria's moon. Those bio-ships, covered in hardened armor, charged at the forefront, pushing forward against the fire of the Astra Militarum.

A bio-ship collided with an Imperial Sword-class Frigate. The warship appeared so minuscule before the void-beast that it was snapped in two, exploding and sinking in an instant.

Amidst the brilliant galactic backdrop, dazzling sparks bloomed one after another. The Sword-class Frigate squadron at the vanguard of the Imperial Navy began to turn rapidly, fleeing backward away from the massive Tyranid capital ship.

The monster opened its blood-stained maw, snapping at the void. On the other side, the Imperial Navy fleet launched a barrage of torpedoes. Proton torpedoes and storm torpedoes shrieked from the launch ports of every cruiser and battleship, their red-glowing warheads weaving together like meteors as they slammed into the bio-ship.

The behemoth shrieked, blood spraying as chitinous fragments flew in all directions. Pitch-black blood floated and dispersed in the zero-gravity environment. Lances and ship guns immediately followed up, pounding the beast into floating sludge and gore within the galaxy.

But this was not the end of the battle. Countless Tyranid bio-ships surged forth like a swarm of bees. Those monsters with gaping maws lacked any formation; they charged recklessly, relying on their own hardened shells and sheer momentum. From their open maws, green plasma sprayed out, firing like cannonballs toward the Imperial Navy.

The void shields of warship after warship flared, the blue surfaces flickering with fluorescence. Cole stood on the bridge, watching the constant flickering of the shield light.

His eyes reflected the countless beams of fire. The dense fire-net, the pride of the Imperial Navy, combined with the backdrop of the galaxy itself to present a magnificent tapestry before Cole.

Captain Cole braced one hand on the bridge railing and roared, "Fire control! Use the Nova Cannon to strike that mothership! Stop it from approaching the planetary orbit!"

"Understood, Captain!" the fire control operator shouted in response. Several data cables were plugged into his body, allowing him to adjust and issue firing orders for the entire ship as if they were his own limbs.

The brilliant Nova Cannon streaked past Cole's eyes. The star-shell, piercing the galaxy with its radiance, slammed into the Hive Fleet mothership. The flickering beam shattered the outer carapace, and the entire thick neck was instantly blasted apart, finally disintegrating in an explosion.

Swarms of flying insects rushed toward the fleet in dense clusters. They bypassed the wreckage of the bio-fleet, hatching and pouring out from one bio-mothership after another. These ancient monsters, capable of crossing galaxies with a flap of their wings, obscured the shining galactic background, descending like a shadow that blotted out the sky.

The Imperial fleet provided immediate feedback. Anti-aircraft cannons and macro-arrays unleashed an equally dense rain of shells. Countless pinpricks of fire shot toward the swarm, and almost instantly, innumerable explosions bloomed within the black clouds.

Cole watched the swarming behemoths calmly. He raised his hand, floating the galactic map before his eyes. It was a scene of destruction; almost all the planets along the path had turned red, the color of bloody death shrouding half the galaxy.

"First Officer, how many of the swarm's landing forces have we intercepted?" Cole asked. Below the bridge, the First Officer, leaning on a technician's chair, watched lines of data flash across her eyes before she suddenly looked up and roared in response, "Sixty percent! But forty percent of the Tyranid Mycetic Spores still breached the atmosphere. Twenty percent of those were destroyed by anti-aircraft fire, leaving only twenty percent that successfully landed!"

Twenty percent? No, that was not a small number. Although it seemed minor in statistical data, Cole knew that for the Tyranids, it still represented a massive horde numbering in the billions.

But there was little more he could do now. He had to hold back the Tyranids fleet.

Cole swiped the display away and pointed at the battlefield outside the massive floor-to-ceiling window. "Recall all vanguard fleets! Concentrate fire! In the name of The Emperor, we shall achieve victory!"

The sky above the entire Hive City was ignited. Countless fireballs flickered within the thick, grey, cloud-filled sky, and the thunderous sound of cannons echoed incessantly.

The Hydra Flak Cannon fired violently toward space. The quad-linked barrels sent lethal shells into the sky. With tens of millions of such anti-aircraft guns roaring in unison, the entire Hive City spat out an endless rain of flickering shells.

Between the countless Hydra Flak Cannon and ground-based multi-linked anti-aircraft guns, massive ground-based macro-laser cannons slowly raised their barrels. Lethal, giant beams of light shot straight into the sky, the striking fire illuminating the entire Hive City, the recoil kicking up a massive cloud of dust around the macro-laser cannons.

Above the Hive City, countless Mycetic Spore broke through the clouds. Those wriggling, storage-filled Tyranid drop-pods smashed toward the surface like a rainstorm, but the vast majority of those aimed at the Hive City were annihilated by dense fire, the spores almost instantly evaporated.

The terrifying density of firepower guarded the Hive City's sky, but beneath the burning heavens, there were still those that slipped through the net. Those spores smashed into the endless wilderness on the outskirts of the city.

The Tyranids that successfully landed launched an overwhelming offensive almost immediately. Without orders, without command, these nightmarish, terrifying creatures instinctively rushed toward the center of the Hive City.

Facing these nightmarish creatures were the heroic Astra Militarum.

Laser beams and solid bolter rounds shrieked, weaving a tapestry of destruction across the battlefield. The entire land was littered with the wreckage of the Tyranids. These terrifying, nightmarish creatures surged from the horizon like a tsunami. The city turned to ruins, the streets became a battlefield. Once, this had been the western gateway of the Hive City, the shining and resplendent Lion's Gate, but now it had lost its former glory.

The golden Lion statue was shattered and toppled, and the magnificent Gothic architecture turned into rubble and ruins. The terrifying firepower of the Astra Militarum poured across the entire street and open ground. The Tyranids charged wave after wave without fear, using the corpses of their companions as a staging ground for their advance.

A massive Tyranid corpse lay on the battlefield, a giant plasma crater on its body. Another Tyranid behemoth roared, stepping over its companion's corpse to launch an attack. Its multiple limbs were stained with the flesh and blood of its own kind, yet it showed not a hint of mercy or hesitation.

The Astra Militarum positions established among the remaining buildings fired violently at the monster. Lasguns and heavy bolters blasted the Tyranid Hormagaunt and Termagant accompanying its charge. Those monsters were reduced to piles of gore amidst bursting flesh, but the behemoth pushed through the Imperial fire, charging head-on.

The behemoth, as large as a building, knocked over a tilted structure. It roared as it charged out from the rubble, crushing and leveling the fallen stones and debris. The behemoth marched with steps that shook the earth toward the position beneath the city wall.

The Valhallan 242nd Regiment soldiers stood up from the trenches, carrying rocket launchers. The rockets shrieked with exhaust trails, shattering two Tyranid Warrior charging at the behemoth's feet. Dense bolter fire and lasers swept away any visible Tyranid creatures in the vicinity.

A Leman Russ tank rolled up and parked steadily above the trench. Its turret had been replaced with a heavy melta cannon. Behind the gun shield, the gunner pulled the trigger at the commander's roar. The dazzling melta shell shrieked over the position and slammed heavily into the Tyranid behemoth.

The monster shrieked and collapsed to the ground. In the very instant it fell, countless shells landed around it. The heavy artillery of the Astra Militarum responded to the call, and a rain of shells fell from the sky, blasting the monster into smoking wreckage.

The Tyranids continued their offensive, launching tidal waves of attacks from every corner. The warriors of the Astra Militarum held their ground in every trench, using equally fierce bolter fire, laser beams, and the powerful weapons of the Imperium to deliver a head-on blow.

On the walls of Lion's Gate, countless cannons fired toward the firmament and the ground. The bombardment covering the land turned the earth over several times, and the craters dotting the landscape left the world riddled with holes.

The Lieutenant of the Valhallan 242nd Regiment fired his lasgun violently. He roared orders to his subordinates. Beside him, a soldier fell, screaming and struggling incessantly. A Ripper was gnawing at his flesh; these wriggling nightmares were burrowing into his skin, devouring every inch of his body.

The Lieutenant raised his gun to end his suffering. He ducked his head to avoid the Ripper bullets flying toward him. These creatures, lacking digestive organs, hit the wall and fell, turning into corpses after a brief moment of shrieking and struggling.

The Lieutenant cursed as he stood up, raising his lasgun to fire, but his action was cut short. Before his eyes, a behemoth burst from the ground. The monster vaulted over the trench, its snake-like body slamming heavily behind the trench line.

The Ravenor immediately began its slaughter. Multiple razor-like claws began to harvest lives. It overturned the multi-linked laser cannon that had been blocking the Tyranid advance. In the brief moment the fire ceased, those nightmarish creatures surged up. Hormagaunts leaped into the trench, using sharp claws to harvest the lives of everyone in the trench.

Countless swarms poured into the trench. The Tyranid behemoth charged through the fire, using its last breath to knock over the firing Leman Russ tank. The behemoth crushed the tank's melta barrel before finally expiring.

"Retreat! Retreat to the gate position! Move!" the Lieutenant shouted, blasting a leaping Hormagaunt with a single shot. He climbed out from the back of the trench and ran past the monster that was wantonly harvesting lives. The Astra Militarum soldiers abandoned the position and began to fall back, but those swift beasts followed closely, and countless Astra Militarum warriors were overtaken, hunted, and slaughtered.

Countless beasts leaped over the trench. The towering behemoth marched with earth-shaking steps across the position. The Astra Militarum soldiers rushed up the stairs in front of the gate and ran toward the platform above. The Astra Militarum guarding there had already begun their counterattack, dense fire doing its best to block the flooding horde.

The survivors rushed up the stairs. After stepping onto the first step, the Lieutenant turned and shot a Hormagaunt, but the Ravenor rushed up with incredible speed and knocked the Lieutenant over. He lay on the ground, looking at the monster towering above him. It had already raised its butcher-blade, ready to harvest yet another life, but the Lieutenant felt no fear.

He pulled the grenade from his chest and gripped the pin. "For The Emperor!" he shouted. But just as he pulled the pin, a massive figure dropped from the sky, instantly crushing the Ravenor's head. Flesh sprayed everywhere, and the iron foot that stepped on the gore took its first step forward.

The towering black giant held a bolter and fired at the Tyranid creatures rushing toward them. Bolter rounds blasted the nightmares apart. Three more giants landed alongside him, immediately blocking the surging Tyranid tide.

The Chainaxe and Power Sword flickered incessantly amidst flesh and blood, sending severed limbs and gore spraying in every direction. The Lieutenant looked up as three Thunderhawk gunships roared overhead, their bolters obliterating the Tyranid monsters along the entire street, instantly filling the air with a bloody mist.

Two more giants plummeted from the passing Thunderhawks—behemoths a size larger than the warriors around them. The veterans clad in Terminator Armor landed with a thunderous crash and began their slaughter the moment they touched the ground; their Storm Bolters roared in unison after a brief moment of silence.

Twin-linked Bolters harvested lives, turning the Tyranid creatures surging from the street ruins into a fine red mist almost instantly. More Space Marine warriors of the Ultramarines Chapter dropped from the sky, forming up the moment they hit the ground, their bolters roaring in their hands.

Some Space Marines landed directly in the center of the Tyranid swarm, immediately standing back-to-back and spraying flames of destruction at their surroundings, reducing countless Tyranid creatures to shattered biomass.

A towering Tyranid beast knocked over a building and crushed the wreckage of a tank, roaring in fury as it charged toward the Space Marines blocking the swarm.

But just as the beast charged head-on down the street, sending debris flying from the surrounding buildings, a Thunderhawk flew overhead. A blue figure dropped from its boarding ramp, landing squarely on the creature's nape.

His scarlet tabard fluttered in the wind as he swung his Power Sword, which crackled with energy arcs. The beast's nape was sliced open in a clean, deep gash. The monster roared and slammed into a sturdy building to the side, yet it did not die.

The Space Marine on its back drew his Master-crafted Bolter from his belt and fired violently into the gaping wound, the bolts exploding deeper and deeper into its flesh. He jammed a Melta Bomb into the hole and leaped away just as the beast shrieked.

He landed amidst a blossoming fireball, his crimson cloak dancing with his blade. Several Tyranid beasts were slain in an instant. The mighty Champion, wearing a Centurion Helmet, moved through the Tyranid swarm as if walking through an empty field, single-handedly halting the entire swarm's charge.

A roar caught his attention. He drew his blade and looked toward the sound, where a Tyranid Warrior stood atop a pile of ruins, clutching a bone sword and staring at the Champion with its maw agape.

The Tyranid beast leaped from the ruins and charged. The Centurion showed no fear, rushing headlong to meet it as the two engaged in close-quarters combat.

The Tyranid Warrior swung its bone sword in a continuous barrage, but the Centurion parried every strike. The Champion raised his Power Sword to block a heavy, downward blow from the Tyranid Warrior; an ordinary man would have had his bones shattered by such force, but not him. He was an Astartes, a lethal weapon forged by the Emperor, one of His Angels of Death!

The Champion released his grip with one hand to draw his bolter, firing a shot point-blank at the Tyranid Warrior. The beast shrieked and recoiled, providing a lightning-fast opening that the Centurion did not miss.

The Centurion, wearing a Crested Helmet, spun around, his Power Sword flashing through the air. When the blade came to a halt, the Tyranid Warrior's head fell to the ground, and its massive body collapsed with a thud.

The Centurion sheathed his longsword calmly. Around him, the Tyranid Hormagaunt and Termagant broods, having lost the command of their synapse creature, began to scatter over the ruins, vanishing into the shadows.

"Captain Mikael." The Space Marines approached, and the Captain turned to nod in salute to his brothers.

"Fine swordsmanship. I had long heard that every Emperor's Champion is extraordinary, and seeing it now, it is true," Lancelot said eagerly, shaking the gore from his knightly longsword.

Mikael waved his iron hand, looking toward the completely collapsed building nearby. From there, he could see the massive Tyranid Swarm launching a fierce assault on the defenses of The Imperium, the entire horizon filled with a surging sea of monsters.

"We must find the Tyranid commander and decapitate it; only then can we buy the Imperial forces time to regroup," Mikael said. "Agreed."

Vito's voice came through everyone's comms. Captain Mikael tilted his head slightly in mild surprise. "Inquisitor, is the situation in the city stable?" "It is not, but it holds. About two kilometers ahead of your position, the Tyranid Tyrant is there. Kill it."

"How do you know it is there?" Ragnar asked in surprise. "Does it matter?" "No, I suppose not." "Good. Go kill it."

Vito's transmission cut off. The group exchanged glances before Mikael turned to face the road ahead. "The Inquisitor is as reliable as ever. Back in Ultramar, he predicted the enemy commander's position with the same accuracy. It is precisely because of that that we were able to hold the Arctic Fortress."

The Emperor's Champion drew his longsword and pointed it toward the heavens. "Brothers! Mortal soldiers! In the name of the Emperor, follow me!"

"For Ultramar!"
