Regardless of the era, the most critical element of any battlefield is air superiority. Whoever commands the sky holds the initiative, capable of launching swift aerial strikes against the enemy.

During the previous skirmishes, although the numbers of the World Eaters and Raven Guard were limited, the opposing aliens were equally fragmented, each fighting their own battles. The front line held firm, and at times, even gained the upper hand.

As time passed, however, the human defenders noticed something amiss. The aliens seemed to be multiplying, especially those screeching Orks.

Even so, looking at the swelling tide of alien forces, Angron could still tell his good brother that the advantage was theirs; it was merely an Ork horde, and it wasn't as if they hadn't fought them before.

Yet, much like saying "I'll get married back home after this war" before heading to the front, the ancient Terra saying "the advantage is ours" is a jinx that must never be uttered.

Sure enough, after Angron cursed the situation with his words, the battlefield shifted instantly. Countless Necron emerged from the ground, followed by the Pariah Nexus, which shrouded half the planet.

As a field card used by the Necron during the War in Heaven specifically to weaken the Old Ones' faction, the Pariah Nexus enforces equality among all living things. Every biological entity has its soul eroded by the energy field, eventually reduced to a mindless lump of flesh.

This also serves as retroactive proof that the Necrontyr race is long dead; what remains is merely a group of living machines unwilling to face reality—a true hellish joke.
