Under the Necrons' internal response protocols, when faced with a fully formed C'tan, they generally adopted a scorched-earth policy, extinguishing the stars across the entire sector.
And whether they were allies or enemies, the moment a C'tan was spotted, every Necron Dynasty that received word had to send support. Even the appearance of a C'tan Shard was certain to draw numerous Necron fleets, which would pursue and surround it.
But it was obvious that these unlucky cans weren't Necrons, and they didn't have the Necron fleets reputed to be the pinnacle of physical power.
Even worse, Hogg wasn't an ordinary C'tan Shard. Though he was undoubtedly the weakest of the C'tan, he was still a fully formed one. Even with only half his body here, these little cans had no hope of resisting him.
The battle erupted in an instant. As Psionic Energy flickered, the sky beyond the Hive City suddenly darkened. Black metallic droplets rained down, corroding Plasteel armor that could have withstood explosive shells.
Acid rain fell from the sky, and the ground melted. Before the Chaos Canned Goods could react, the Daemon Engines that formed the backbone of their firepower were strangled on the spot by writhing tentacles. Then they witnessed a scene that shattered their minds.
As members of the Black Legion, these fallen warriors were a motley lot. They included Space Marines from just about every traitor Legion, and even some loyal Chapters had turned to Chaos, thanks to the High Lords' enlightened policy of treating people like people.
But that was exactly why the sight of a horde of enormous men charging toward them, wearing barely any clothes and bearing faces eerily like their own Primarch, left the cans momentarily frozen.
"Chaos Gods above, I must be dreaming."
