Background / History

Hogg was originally an ordinary human who wished for a more colorful life before a meteor abruptly struck him. He transmigrated into an infant in Alicia's wilderness and survived by hunting and eating its mutant wildlife. By one year old, he had become the region's strongest predator. 1 684

After the Elysian civil war, the 4th Defense Company found and adopted him. Its old commander gave him the surname Menethil. Hogg later fought alongside the resistance, using his physical strength to raid enemy camps, seize a Knight Mech, and sabotage government forces. 1 684

At three years old, he became a major battlefield asset to the resistance; at four, he served as second-in-command under Old Thomas Wayne, who raised Hogg as his successor and shaped his early worldview. 684

The Emperor eventually found Hogg on Alicia, recognizing him as an “Outworld Wanderer.” Hogg's presence had filled the vacancy left by the failed Eleventh Primarch and allowed the Emperor to glimpse part of the future. The Emperor granted him authority, two years to organize himself, and command of the Dark Raiders, later known as Blackwatch. 2 3

Hogg turned Blackwatch into a force distinguished by gene-seed stability, broad recruitment, internal salaries, unusually good living conditions, and female Space Marines created through his genetic-engineering work with Candice Laza. 5 16

After Slaanesh abducted him, Hogg spent roughly ten thousand years imprisoned and repeatedly weakened. He returned in 666.M41 starving, diminished to a child-sized body, and unaware of the Imperium's current condition. 280 291

Appearance

Hogg's appearance is highly mutable. His baseline form is a white-haired Primarch-like humanoid, but his body can regenerate, split, reshape, or assume animalistic and monstrous forms.

  • White or silver-white hair, frequently emphasized as a signature “cool hairstyle.” 123 381
  • Silver-white patterns emerged across his skin after absorbing the Void Dragon shard. 4
  • Has been described with six scarlet eyes in his Titan-beast form. 302
  • Can manifest a long tail, chitinous armor, tentacles, and enlarged behemoth forms. 153 224 280
  • Has appeared as a Corgi, a white-haired Ogryn, a giant star-beast, and a silver-haired, elven-like figure. 203 603 159 774
  • His form is based on the first creature he devoured: Primarch 11. 774

Personality

Hogg is lazy, gluttonous, theatrical, and profoundly unserious in ordinary circumstances. He enjoys pancakes, good food, strange hairstyles, pranks, scavenging, and humiliating his brothers. His apparent frivolity often masks considerable strategic ability, technical aptitude, and survival instinct. 1 82 291 381

He is suspicious of convenient coincidences and manipulative forces, particularly Warp entities and Necron-related technology. He correctly suspected that Magnus's supposed benevolent Warp contacts were daemons attempting to deceive him. 43 90

Despite regularly abusing, mocking, or disciplining his followers, Hogg considers Blackwatch his true treasure. He treats Legion personnel as people rather than disposable assets, provides for their welfare, and reacts strongly to threats against them. 16 210 463

His morality is flexible, but he repeatedly pursues long-term improvements to human life, Imperial stability, communication, logistics, and technology. 189 323 728 743

Abilities & Skills

Primarch Physiology

Hogg possesses immense physical power, endurance, adaptability, and regenerative capacity.

  • Could destroy interstellar-era building material with one punch at age twelve. 1
  • Ordinary weapons struggle to pierce his defenses. 1
  • Can regenerate severe injuries unless killed instantly; even scattered body parts can return to him. 1 120
  • Can survive in vacuum and use his body as a living fortress or weapon. 120 159
  • His resurrection can begin from the largest remaining fragment; if no fragment remains, he can slowly regenerate at the destruction site. 772

Flesh Shaping

Hogg can manipulate his own biology and alter flesh or biological structures.

  • Can reshape his body into tails, tentacles, armor, beast forms, and smaller escape forms. 120 153 224
  • Uses biological knowledge to modify gene-seed and create compatible female Space Marines. 5
  • Can create war-beasts and convert Tyranid biomass into creatures resembling himself. 67 302
  • After becoming a C'tan, can transform metal husks into flesh-and-blood creations. 619
  • Flesh transformation can corrupt recipients with “silly” impulses; those unable to resist may die or become mindless Blood Beasts. 619

C'tan Power and Dimensional Lightning

After consuming C'tan shards, Hogg gained power over electromagnetic and physical phenomena.

  • Dimensional Lightning first manifested after absorbing a Void Dragon shard. 4
  • The Burning One shard greatly empowered this lightning, allowing Hogg to distort the surrounding electromagnetic field and damage barriers between reality and the Warp. 27
  • Can use electromagnetic force to destroy nearby ships and warp the material universe. 35
  • As a true C'tan, can directly perceive and manipulate temperature, gravity, and magnetism as tangible phenomena. 619
  • Can absorb stellar heat and radiation to alleviate hunger. 619

Psionic Energy

Before his C'tan ascension, Hogg wielded powerful Psionic Energy, often as corrosive scarlet or dark-red power.

  • Can erode, assimilate, and consume enemies through Psionic Energy. 27 484
  • Built standardized Psionic Energy amplifiers using Auramite-doped alloys. 90
  • Can interface with psychic networks, including the Tyranid Psychic Network, and reverse-pollute connected organisms. 302
  • His Psionic Energy can be depleted or suppressed; after ascending to full C'tan status, he could no longer use conventional psychic powers. 205 619

Erosion and Distortion

A power gained after Hogg merged with Hogg-ge and absorbed Warp energy.

  • Combines traits inherited from his Warp and physical “fathers.” 618
  • Marks his emergence as an entity positioned between C'tan and Chaos Gods. 618
  • Its exact applications beyond his subsequent transformation and ascension remain unspecified. 618

Engineering and Genetic Science

Hogg is an exceptionally fast learner with a strong interest in practical science and mass production.

  • His mind is described as comparable to a top-tier computer, and he can learn anything after seeing it once. 1
  • Worked with Candice Laza on combat serums, gene-seed modification, war-beasts, and biological research. 5 67
  • Created simple, scalable equipment rather than elegant but impractical designs. 90
  • Developed the Nila Terminal Machine for real-time Imperium-wide communications. 189
  • Acquired an STC for planetary terraforming and an anti-gravity flight device. 728

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Raider power armor — Hogg's active-duty armor; originally recolored black and given Blackwatch's scarlet triangular emblem. It can repair itself using metal from his pocket dimension. 21 27
  • Helm of Domination — Enhances mental power; Hogg regarded its convenient arrival as potentially suspicious. 90
  • Blacklight — His Gloriana-class flagship and primary base for Blackwatch operations; later destroyed and slated for reconstruction on Mars. 35 463
  • Moyu — Battle barge Hogg moved into after Blacklight's destruction. 463
  • Vortex Torpedo — Used to fake his death while fighting Slaanesh. 280
  • Nila Terminal Machine — Communication terminal endorsed by the Emperor for Imperium-wide real-time networking. 189

Relationships

  • The Emperor / Neoth — Hogg's father figure and frequent opponent. Their relationship alternates between trust, scolding, physical fights, mutual reliance, and reluctant affection. 2 3 120 224 598
  • Blackwatch — Hogg's Legion and most valued possession; he acts as its commander, benefactor, disciplinarian, and father figure. 16 210 463
  • Ross — Hogg's First Captain and one of his strongest sons; loyal but reckless, frequently punished for overstepping. 74 210 280
  • Candice Laza — Tech-Priest Magos, tutor, and genetic-engineering collaborator. 3 5
  • Magnus — Brother and regular target of Hogg's teasing; Hogg nevertheless worries about Magnus's safety and later seeks to restore him. 43 203 323
  • Lorgar — Brother, student, and occasional ally; Hogg guided his education and later worked alongside him in training the Alaitoc Eldar. 102 710
  • Leman Russ — Brother and recurring nemesis; Russ has used Hogg as a weapon, provoked him, and remained concerned for him. 78 189 688
  • Zoffy — A clone/companion sharing memories connected to Hogg's consumption of a Shadow-beast. Their relationship deepens through shared experimentation and Hogg's recounting of his past. 175 463 684
  • Emilia Aziz — Early companion and later trusted associate; Hogg invited her to travel with him, while she remained defiant in the Emperor's presence because she believed in Hogg's intentions. 2 684
  • Old Thomas Wayne — Resistance leader who raised Hogg as a successor and helped establish his worldview. 684
  • Cegorach — Claims Hogg is his father; Hogg rejects the claim but accepts him as a “brother” after being offered Alaitoc. 706
  • Slaanesh — Hogg's abductor and tormentor; their history left Hogg traumatized, weakened, and deeply hostile toward her. 280 291 619
