Deep night.
He Shenyan was staring blankly at the small Hungarian Horntail on his desk. This hornless dragon was sleeping soundly, its once-intimidating appearance rendered somewhat cute by its diminished size.
Do not misunderstand; he was no furry enthusiast. He simply sensed some strange phenomena emanating from this hornless dragon.
He Shenyan retrieved the two vials of blood he had preserved from the void. A volatile magic had once radiated from them, but the magic now present in this dragon seemed almost holy—the only explanation for this phenomenon was that healing spell from Heaven.
He narrowed his eyes.
"I was wondering why spells from Heaven could be used here."
He Shenyan muttered to himself. He grabbed the Hungarian Horntail and squeezed hard; black ash spilled from between his fingers.
The dragon died without a sound. He Shenyan opened his palm, and some of the Hungarian Horntail's blood floated in the air, having turned a golden hue and emitting a glowing white light that illuminated the room as if it were broad daylight.
"Interesting."
Far from being angry, He Shenyan smiled.
Those angels, who had been terrified into submission by him, could not have predicted that he would travel across worlds and use this spell on a dragon from another dimension. They lacked such capability.
The most logical conclusion was that this spell contained a backdoor, one that would gradually transform the recipient into a creature of Heaven.
He Shenyan still remembered the knowledge he had gleaned from the ancient tome Heaven and Hell: angels were not truly created by the so-called God, but by the unique dimension of Heaven itself.
There was still no consensus on what God actually was. Some even claimed that God had retreated into Heaven out of fear of the creatures He had created that wandered the earth.
He Shenyan could say this much—though he had never met God, He was certainly not in Heaven.
As for the angels, he understood them all too well.
These seemingly noble and beautiful creatures gave mortals a sense of special affinity, and they were not all humanoid. Under the radiance of the halos above their heads, mortals would directly become believers of Heaven, thereby making the independent dimension of Heaven even stronger.
In other words, if a living creature of Heaven were to appear in a world where Heaven had never existed, the result would be nothing less than this world becoming a backyard for Heaven, to be plundered at will.
Earth had once experienced such dark times, but Ancient One had swept those things out of the mortal realm and forbidden them from ever returning. Although reckless cultists had attempted it since, He Shenyan had come along later.
The spell he had used had passed through many hands over the millennia; it had been used by priests, by maidens claiming to be called by God, and even by cultists. Naturally, mages could use it too.
Just as the angels proclaimed that God loved the world, anyone with powerful magic could use this healing spell from Heaven. Its effects were so potent that even if you had only one breath left, you could be saved instantly.
Throughout such a long span of time, no one had ever been transformed into a creature of Heaven because of this spell. So, why would a weak sub-dragon from another world begin to transform after it was used?
He could not fathom it, but he noted the matter down.
The thirst for knowledge among mages was intense. He Shenyan preserved the blood and tucked it into his 'Magic Backpack'—which was, in fact, a pocket dimension—along with the rest.
He had been in this world for nearly a year. He had taught them everything he could; excluding those high-power spells that might lead to the destruction of the world, which he had not included in the Compendium of Basic Spells, he had written down everything else.
From here on, the development of this world would depend on their own fortune. The World Barrier told him that nothing had happened recently, and he could begin preparing for a cross-world journey soon. His shattered soul had gradually recovered during this year of nourishment; the next step was simply to wait in an orderly fashion.
Thinking this, He Shenyan stood up. He intended to meditate for a while to pass the night. But between tomorrow and an accident, the accident always arrives first.
"Mage!" the World Barrier screamed abruptly in his mind. "They—!"
He whipped his head toward the window, immediately wrapping the entire Hogwarts in his spiritual power. Above the pitch-black sky, a massive, glowing Blurry Humanoid had appeared.
The halo atop the giant humanoid's head radiated the unique magical brilliance of Heaven without restraint.
"Bang."
His office door was kicked open, and Dumbledore stumbled in, clutching his throat and limping.
He was barely able to breathe, staggering until he collapsed onto the desk. After taking a deep, ragged breath, he said with difficulty: "What, what is that?"
He Shenyan gave him a deep look and said nothing, merely causing Dumbledore to fall into a deep sleep.
He unleashed his spiritual power to its full extent, forcing every living thing in the school to fall into a slumber, including the Unicorns in the Forbidden Forest.
The Blurry Humanoid remained suspended in the sky, emitting light. It extended a hand and pointed toward He Shenyan from afar, and a massive beam of white light roared toward his office.
A thick, semi-circular black shield followed immediately, protecting the entirety of Hogwarts. The beam of light slammed into it and vanished without a trace.
He Shenyan's expression turned grim as he flew into the sky. Black magic formed a massive shadow behind him, pressing toward the Blurry Humanoid without restraint, only to be intercepted in mid-air by countless beams of light released by the entity.
This time, the beams were not absorbed; instead, they collided with the black magic in the air.
The intense energy erupted from the clash, sweeping across the entire sky in an instant.
As this terrifying energy threatened to level half of England, He Shenyan's eyes narrowed. A massive shadow abruptly manifested beneath his feet, and hundreds of enormous tentacles shot out, forcibly pulling the shockwave back in a way that defied the laws of physics.
A sound of chewing came from within the shadow.
He Shenyan closed his eyes.
At this moment, he knew that continuing to fight this creature—suspected to be an angel—would only cause this world to crumble bit by bit. He had to take it elsewhere.
Having made his decision, he exerted his full power. Massive bolts of magical lightning and violent rain of fire appeared out of thin air. These powerful spells, capable of erasing a city, bombarded the Blurry Humanoid. Yet, it did not dodge or evade, allowing them to strike its body. Before long, its form had actually grown slightly larger.
He Shenyan narrowed his eyes. This strange thing he had never seen before could actually absorb magic; attacking it with simple evocation spells was no different from throwing meat to a Two-headed Ogre.
However, it was not as if there were no other ways. He secretly gathered his strength.
Just then, it spoke. A million different voices merged together, and a clear hymn rang out in the air. Six pairs of pure white energy wings unfurled behind its back.
It said: "There is no need for this."
"We do not need to fight, stranger mage."
"Explain."
He Shenyan asked, his expression unmoving.
"No need to be so tense, Planeswalker. I can make a deal with you."
It continued, "Do you not all crave new knowledge and spells? I possess an entire library, and you may choose five hundred tomes to take with you, all originating from different worlds. Or perhaps."
"I could give you the coordinates to a new world. How about that?"
He Shenyan merely said calmly, "I only want to know one thing: if I agree, what will you do to this world?"
Its body rippled as if it were laughing. After a long while, it spoke.
"A Planeswalker with a bottom line. Truly incredible."
"Answer the question."
"There is no longer any need, mage. My kin have already arrived. It seems you do not belong to any organization—a wild Planeswalker. You are truly... tempting."
It spoke in a gentle tone that made He Shenyan feel nauseated. Behind him, space was torn open from thin air, and dozens of creatures similar to it stepped out.
"Do not bother trying to continue charging the trick you were about to perform; your magic is ineffective against me. Stand where you are, mage. For the sake of the White Tower Council, we will not kill you. As an aside, that deal remains valid, provided you agree."
It said this with undisguised delight.
He Shenyan did not speak; he remained silent. His facial features hardened, and his hands lit up once more with black magic.
Yes, it would be so simple to just watch them die. He had only known them for a year; compared to his desires and pursuits, what did these mortals matter?
But some people simply cannot convince themselves.
They may waver, but they cannot bring themselves to let it go or choose the easy path.
You could call them stupid, call them shortsighted, or even call them mad.
But even if it happened a hundred times over, the result would be predetermined. They would refuse, because it is not something that can be changed by the promise of temporary gain; it is a conviction rooted deep within their hearts that makes them who they are.
If I agree, then what do I become? It was because of me that you came here—and now, am I to just walk away?
Every cause has its effect.
And so, facing the dozens of massive Blurry Humanoid figures that had already brainwashed the better part of the world, He Shenyan said only one word.
"No."
