After dinner, Zhang Yang drove the two sisters home.
Along the way, Bei Jiajia sat in the back seat, still buzzing with excitement as she chattered away about all sorts of things.
Zhang Yang listened without speaking. While they were stopped at a red light, Bei Wei gently took his right hand and laid it over her lower belly.
Everyone had eaten quite a bit that evening, and Bei Wei was no exception.
At that moment, her slender waist and flat stomach felt slightly rounded beneath his hand.
"Let me see, you two still can't bear to part even in the car?" Bei Jiajia leaned over with a grin, then let out a surprised sound. "You're... pregnant?"
In the passenger seat, Bei Wei gave a soft spit and rolled her eyes at Bei Jiajia.
Amid the laughter and teasing, Bei Jiajia's phone rang. She glanced at it, quickly sat back, and answered.
"Hello?"
The car fell silent, making the conversation clearly audible.
Zhang Yang heard it distinctly. The caller was unmistakably Bei Tianfu, whom he had not seen in a long time—Bei Jiajia's father.
"Jiajia, have you been giving Gao Cong the cold shoulder?" Bei Tianfu's voice came through the phone.
"He actually went and complained? Oh my god." Bei Jiajia puffed up in annoyance. "Dad, can you just stay out of this, please? Isn't this getting endless?"
"Don't go too far. Your mother and I have both seen that young man's sincerity. He's a perfect match for you, so don't think too highly of yourself. Look at his circumstances, then look at ours." Bei Tianfu's tone was stern as he gave Bei Jiajia a thorough scolding.
Zhang Yang glanced in the rearview mirror. Bei Jiajia held her phone, looking rather wronged.
"Then what do you want me to do?"
