History

The Cloud Glow Sect endured for roughly a thousand years as one of the Great Gan Dynasty's three dominant sects. Its position rested on Cloud Glow Mountain's spiritual vein, its accumulated martial heritage, and the Grandmaster-level experts within its ranks 22 24.

Zhou Fengyu, a core disciple and personal disciple of Grandmaster Luoxia, used the sect's name to gather the residents of Zhang Family Village under the pretense of a disciple-recruitment test. He then massacred more than one hundred unarmed villagers, including Zhang Qi's family, for reasons not revealed in the available record 21 22. Lin Hanzhou, inhabiting Zhang Qi's body, killed Zhou in the aftermath and took the Cloud Glow Heart Method, Flowing Cloud Sword Technique, and Zhou's low-grade Profound longsword 21 23.

The sect's Life Tablet Chamber later registered the deaths of both Zhou Fengyu and Zhao Wuji, another of Luoxia's personal core disciples. Enraged by the loss of his only two personal disciples, Luoxia traced their final location to a remote village in Qing Province and departed alone to seek vengeance 24.

The sect subsequently issued a wanted notice for the Zhang Family Village incident. The notice accused an unknown suspect of murdering Zhou and over a hundred villagers, assessed the suspect as at least a veteran Martial Master, and offered one thousand taels of gold for useful information or a Grandmaster-level cultivation technique for the suspect's capture or death 25.

Following Lin Hanzhou's slaughter of two Qing Grandmasters, Cloud Glow Sect joined Vajra Temple and Emotionless Gate in an emergency conference. The sect leadership concluded that confronting the State Preceptor directly was too dangerous and instead chose to wait for the lifespan backlash of his forbidden technique to take effect 43.

The sect publicly adopted a compliant posture toward the imperial court: it contributed funds and provisions for reconstruction, sent elite elders to help remove Qing remnants, and prohibited disciples from causing trouble outside the mountain 43. This submission did not prevent Lin Hanzhou from visiting Cloud Glow Mountain and coercing the sect into opening its Scripture Pavilion to him 44.
