The mansion was bustling with activity. In the main hall, Murong Huai's family had gathered, along with Qian Xunji and Golden Crocodile. The star of the day sat in the middle of an empty space, surrounded by everyone: the young lady of the Murong family.
She sat on a huge rug, with all sorts of things arranged in a circle around her: a pellet drum, a wooden sword, books, a bow and arrows... even the Pope Token and the Black Flame Army's banner.
That was right—the young lady of the Murong family was about to take part in the grab ceremony. Traditionally, the ceremony was held on a child's first birthday. But not everyone believed in such customs, and Murong Chayue and Xiao Qingmei had never observed them. So when Murong Huai's little sister turned one, they hadn't held a ceremony.
Murong Zhige, however, was different. When he returned and heard that his precious great-granddaughter hadn't had a grab ceremony, he gave Murong Chayue and Murong Fuhai a thorough scolding. So now, they had no choice but to hold one today.
Murong Chayue had tried to reason with him, saying that the ceremony was meant to be held when a child turned one, and doing it now went against proper etiquette. But Murong Zhige wouldn't hear of it. This was what he'd said:
"Pah! Rules are for other people. My precious great-granddaughter can have her grab ceremony at two. So what? If anyone's got a problem with it, they can come say it to my face. I'll grab them for the ceremony instead!"
Helpless under Murong Zhige's "reasonable" reasoning, the others could only laugh wryly and do as he said. And so the grab ceremony was held today.
