Background / History

The Ancient Clan was one of the seven long-standing Emperor Clans. It possessed an extensive inherited foundation, its own independent small world—the Ancient Realm—and one-eighth of the Tou She Ancient God Jade, an indispensable key to the Dou Di inheritance. 336 350

According to Xiao Wujiu's understanding, the Ancient Clan was among the factions involved in the Xiao Tribe's decline and partition. He specifically considered Gu Yuan pivotal to the circumstances that drove Xiao Xuan to attempt an irreversible breakthrough using the Xiao Tribe's Dou Di bloodline. 121 Xiao Wujiu's hostility became irreconcilable after Ling Ying ambushed him; he held Gu Yuan responsible for tacitly permitting the use of Gu Xun'er's secret guards. 121

The clan remained prosperous in the present era, sustaining hundreds of millions of Descendant People within the Ancient Realm. Unlike other Emperor Clans, it allowed subordinate descendants whose ancestral bloodline regressed to become genuine clan members, continually replenishing its ranks. 350

Ancient Realm

The Ancient Clan's principal territory was the Ancient Realm, a small world maintained through the clan's abundance of experts and resources. Its central base lay in the Ancient Saint Mountain Range, where the strongest presences and major defenses were concentrated. 350 351

Ancient Saint City

Ancient Saint City was a vast vassal city outside the Ancient Realm and the largest city Xiao Wujiu had encountered. A hidden spatial gate beneath its central lake connected it to the Ancient Realm; the gate was normally opened only for special occasions, such as the clan's coming-of-age ceremonies. 350 351

The city was protected by a light barrier rumored to have been constructed by a Dou Di and to contain a trace of Dou Di power. 351

Ancestral Hall

The Ancestral Hall stood deep within the Ancient Clan's core territory. It served as a site of ancestor worship and clan governance, housing ancestral tablets, maintaining clan law and genealogies, and hosting council gatherings. 351

It also safeguarded the Ancient Clan's portion of the Tou She Ancient God Jade. At least three Dou Sheng experts guarded the hall at all times. 351

Conflict with the Xiao Tribe

Xiao Wujiu identified the Ancient Clan as one of the Emperor Clans implicated in the Xiao Tribe's downfall. He resolved to avenge the tribe and warned Xiao Yan that an eventual conflict with the Ancient Clan was unavoidable. 121 125

Escalation and Retaliation

After Xiao Wujiu killed four Ancient Clan elders and a Black Annihilation Army commander, he expected retaliation and relocated the Xiao Clan to a small world for safety. 172

The clan's Dou Sheng forces later confronted Xiao Wujiu, but four were defeated and captured. Their souls and bodies were taken after negotiations failed. 233 234 Xiao Wujiu continued targeting Ancient Clan members, provoking Gu Yuan to dispatch Gu Dao and prompting Gu Xin to seek a coalition of Emperor Clans. 238 262

Theft of the Ancient God Jade

Xiao Wujiu infiltrated Ancient Saint City and the Ancient Realm through spatial means, reaching the Ancestral Hall without alerting its defenders. He located the Ancient Clan's jade fragment using the quarter already in his possession. 350 351

During the ensuing crisis, Gu Yang—a Soul Clan mole—injured the hall's guard and attempted to steal the jade. The Ancestral Hall Great Elder self-destructed to raise the alarm, but Gu Yang ultimately delivered the jade to Xiao Wujiu before sacrificing himself to delay Gu Yuan. 352 353

Emperor Clan Alliance

Seeking to recover the jade and eliminate Xiao Wujiu, Gu Yuan accepted the Soul Clan's alliance proposal despite Gu Lie and Gu Dao's objections. The Ancient Clan subsequently joined the Five-Clan Allied Forces that surrounded Ancient Dragon Island. 357 367

The alliance's campaign ended disastrously when Ancient Dragon Island's formations trapped the Emperor Clans and the Blood-Thirst Soul-Annihilation Array drained their cultivation. Gu Yuan fought alongside Zhu Kun against Xiao Wujiu and the Ancient Masters but lost the advantage. 373

Defeat

After the conflict, Xiao Wujiu offered the Ancient Clan terms unavailable to the surrendered Soul Clan: its members could live if their cultivation and Dou Di bloodline were stripped, leaving open the possibility that a future successor might restore the clan. 382

Xiao Wujiu then displayed half of the Tou She Ancient God Jade to Gu Yuan and used the Human Emperor Banner to torture and absorb him, settling their enmity. 382
