A New Phone

"Buy an identity?"

Chabashira repeated Satsu's words in disbelief. She'd been at this school for a long time, but this was the first time she'd ever heard such a request.

"Yes, sensei. I thought it should be something you could buy."

"You can."

After giving him a definitive answer, Chabashira closed her eyes with a helpless sigh. "But you couldn't possibly afford the points. You have to understand, changing the school system and inventing a student out of thin air is very difficult."

"Ten million points!"

At that figure, Satsu stared at Chabashira in confusion.

"Uh... I think you've misunderstood me, Chabashira-sensei," Satsu said haltingly.

"I really just want to buy another phone. It's not that complicated."

Now it was Chabashira's turn to look confused. She asked, "You mean you want to buy a blank phone?"

"I see. That would be much cheaper, but I still don't think you can afford it."

"Three hundred thousand points!"

"Deal!"

At Satsu's quick response, Chabashira's eyes widened.

Even Chabashira herself had thought there was no way the deal would go through when she named the price of three hundred thousand.

She knew Satsu had taken all of Kuraku's and Matsuyama's points, but how much could that really amount to?

They were only students in Class C, so they didn't receive many points each month. They also had to hand some of them over to Nagumo, and Kuraku was a total sucker.

Even if Satsu sold the personal belongings he'd won from Matsuyama for points, some of that junk was so worthless nobody would take it for free. How much could he possibly make?

Even if Satsu had received a hundred thousand points in his first month, there was no way he hadn't spent any of them. By that logic, being able to come up with two hundred thousand points would already be impressive, let alone three hundred thousand.

But seeing how serious Satsu was, Chabashira knew he wasn't joking.

It wasn't until she watched Satsu pay the points with his phone that Chabashira slowly accepted reality: the person in front of her had really come up with three hundred thousand points.

In his first month at school, he hadn't fallen into the honey trap of a hundred thousand points in living expenses. He'd actually tripled that amount!

"You've really opened my eyes. This is the first time since the school was founded that a Class D student has had so many points after just one month. Plenty of Class A students couldn't manage it."

Chabashira's mood suddenly lifted. She handed Satsu the new phone, speaking with excitement.

Though he didn't show it, Satsu had found the purchase painful too. Looking at the mere sixty thousand points he had left, he couldn't help sighing.

Without lingering in the office, Satsu hurried out. He couldn't wait to start testing his new phone and figure out as quickly as possible what it could do.

The results were even better than he'd expected. Making calls and sending texts worked just fine, and the phone number was indeed new.

The downside was that, without an account, he couldn't make point transfers or carry out other activities restricted to the school.

He could have solved that problem by using his own account, but that would have defeated the purpose of keeping his shadow account hidden.

After school, Hirata immediately went to the front of the classroom and announced that he was starting a study group, but Satsu didn't stay to listen.

He'd barely made it into the hallway when Kikyo blocked his way.
